| LG Washer/Dryer I always research any major purchase for at least a year or two before I go buy one....I start with Consumer Report and then really drill down and get into researching the recommended product....Now, after almost 2-3 years of researching, I have cosen a washing machine and dryer that I think will be perfect for us! I had already decided on a top loader for the washer....I have talked to alot of people that have bought front loaders and they were not happy with them....seems among other complaints, there is an "odor" issue....and I just think it will be too difficult for me to stoop over and crawl inside a front loader to retrieve clothes. The brand that seems to keep rising to the top of the pack is LG....many, many positive reviews on the set I want....My selection is the LG 5.2 cu.ft. 14 cycle (WT5680HVA) and the matching dryer, DLEX5680V....they are now on sale until April 7th....this will be my birthday gift to me. Does anyone have this machine and how do you like it? Every appliance in my home is white....I am going to get wild and crazy and jump in on a graphite colored duo!!! ... You really realize you are old when a washing machine and dryer is such a HUGE deal!!!! Last edited by Yorkiemom1; 04-01-2015 at 03:55 PM. |

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | I totally understand about the washer and dryer. I don't have the set you are talking about...I did go with a front load washer. I love mine and I've had them for 4 1/2 years. It was and still us a huge deal to me😀 I'm sure you'll be happy with them. |

| LG seems to be very popular in Korea for its reliability and performance. I know you said you read a lot of good reviews but how about the bad reviews? Usually, I prefer reading the bad reviews first to see what sort of issues might arise. |

| I have the WT5101H purchased in October 2 and 1/2 years ago and the DLEX5170 purchased a little over a year ago. I found the best prices at appliancesconnection.com (note the s on appliance). Like you, I consider my purchases for a while before spending the money. I was a little worried of being damaged in shipping, but with the best price plus free shipping and no tax I had to go for it. I also got my LG fridge, microwave and double oven (almost 3 years ago) there and all were packaged extremely well meant to be shipped and arrived without a scratch. I love love love the Sanitary cycle on the washer. It's a 3 hour cycle, but you can throw pillows in and they come out sparkling white like brand new. I also opted for the top of the line dryer with the steam feature. If doing it over again, I would not pay much for that steam feature, but would pay even 100 or so for the sanitary cycle on the washer. The washer uses very little water, is gentle on the clothes and gets everything really clean. It is a top loader without the center stem so you can fit so much in them you won't believe it. I recommend the top load so you can leave the lid open because they tend to smell moldy if you leave it closed. Some of the complaints I read were that it tangled clothes. Not so, if sorted and put in properly. I have had no problems with any of the LGS so far, but definitely not old school. I'm assuming a repair is going to be bucks, but at this time I would purchase again. |

| I've never had luck with LG. Never had those particular models. But I never had luck. I never had much luck with consumer reports recommendations either. |

| I don't have that exact model but I do have LG washer/dryer and we love it. Usually when we buy Korean products we prefer Samsung but they are pretty pricey now. A Samsung washer/dryer set was like $3000. We got floor model LGs from Fry's for a bit over $1000 for both. We have not had good luck with LG phones though.

| My phones are Samsung, my big screen TV is Samsung....most of my stuff is either LG or Samsung. Like I said I always go with Consumer Report and unlike "Ironmike", I have had nothing but excellent results with all products they have recommended. I got the Samsung French door, freezer on the bottom, only because the reviews I read seemed to all complain of it being more noisy, especially the ice maker. My only complaint with my fridge is I wish the ice was crushed into finer pieces.....that is how I get my water, by eating crushed ice and the crushed ice is a little hunky.....I was thinking it would be like the ice machine at the hospital......THAT was crushed ice!!! Thank you Lacys Mom for the great info you posted about your machines...and for sharing the website....did they do "white glove service", ie set it up for you? I am so excited over this new washer and dryer....my old one has served me so well but it is 14 years old and it just is not large enough...it takes me all day to wash, because I can only put 6 of these Egyptian cotton towels in at one time or it strips the gears! And the spin cycle.....well lets just say the machine is trying to escape through the laundry window....WAY beyond "out of balance" and that is with carefully arranging and frequently re-arranging the clothes being washed... |

Senior Yorkie Talker | We just bought a lg washer not sure if it's the same one . I have had it about three months now so far so good. It's h e with out the middle, self balancing, adjusts the water level to the amount of clothes put in. Does this sound like yours? If so I think you will like it. Didn't need a dryer on the list for next year. We had front loaders before fridgidaire brand junk the door leaked around the sill after only three years.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I'm interested in hearing about all of this bc I'm considering maybe buying a new W/D...but I'm conflicted over top vs front loading. Right now I have a top loader and I kind of want front loaders so I can put a countertop over the W/D and have that space, ya know?

| We had Samsung front loaders before. They just seemed weird to me. The water takes a while to fill also. We didn't get the pedestals bc I'm short so I didn't think it would be an issue. So you just squat down and change from the washer to the dryer without bending over the washer, then bending over the other way for the dryer. But they were so deep that I couldn't reach to the back, so still I'd have to get up a bit. Not as easy as I thought. As for the shelf, we do have a shelf above, it's just higher up.

| I'm also wanting to replace my 13 year old w&d but when I started reviewing not one stood out with rave reviews. I got so overwhelmed as to wht to do I haven't bought anything yet. When I looked into the front loaders there were 2 complaints that stood out. One being the smell of mildew, some people claimed the odor was because the drum was on it's side a small amount of water would remain under the tub unable to completely drain out. The other complaint was that it broke at about the 3-5 year mark. There's a part called a "spider" that is attached to the back of the drum that would corrode and disintegrate. One day you'll be doing laundry and then you'll here a loud clunking sound of the drum flopping around without the support of the "spider. So I ruled out front loaders. I didn't have much luck finding a top loader either with rave receives. I did find a forum that consisted of appliance repairmen who felt the only decent machines out there are the ones made by Speed Queen because they tend to make machines for laundry mats. So I went to the only store in my area that had them, but I just couldn't get past the plain look of them. They are very basic machines if that's what someone is looking for. So my hunt is still on. I hope your machines are exactly what you looking for they are very nice looking.

| Well we have looked and studied washers and dryers as we are most difinitely needing replacements.Get ready for this ours 31 yrs and still running. Yes Maytag both heavy duty when We purchased them. My husband has worked on the dryer element once and we have had very good services all those years. Buttt now it's time They have begun showing the ware and will I ever find something these days made half as good. By the way we still have our receipt for the Maytag set we pd 839.00 for the set feb 18,1984. Yes I have washed for a family of 4 including bedspreads, blankets, heavy cotton towels you name it never a problem. I have looked at front loaders and heard they have mildew odors. As someone else shared some washers are so deep that if you don't have long arms and legs you really have to work to reach the bottom. Not to mention as you get older leaning over to pull heavy linens out. So I'm reading your responses and trying to pay attention because I have already gone shopping for a new set and really got so frustrated. All the info you guys learn and share will be very appreciated. As its time to give up the maytag and they are not even built the same quality. Considering the speed queens too.

| I have a LG washer and dryer, not the same model you are looking at. They are almost a year old. I have had two problems: 1. Bubba was scared to death of the sound the water made when starting rinse cycles, a hissing like sound. He has since gotten over it. 2. Mine is a top loader and i am 5'2". After the wash ends it is very difficult for me to reach small things in the bottom of the washer (even on tip toe). So, if you are short like me, before you purchase go to the store and reach in to see if you can reach to the bottom. Otherwise, I love them.
