I bought the LG washer, gas dryer in Dec. and I love, love, LOVE them. Never had anything like them before. The washer measures the loads to determine how much water will be needed. The basket is the largest one and very deep. The dryer is also automatic and also has a rack to use when you want to lay sweater flat to dry. It does a lot more. Anyway I was looking for the model numbers. One is DLGX5681W and the other is WT5480CW. Don't know which is which. I'll attach a pic.

I got the Samsung French door, freezer on the bottom, only because the reviews I read seemed to all complain of it being more noisy, especially the ice maker. My only complaint with my fridge is I wish the ice was crushed into finer pieces.....that is how I get my water, by eating crushed ice and the crushed ice is a little hunky.....I was thinking it would be like the ice machine at the hospital......THAT was crushed ice!!!

Thank you Lacys Mom for the great info you posted about your machines...and for sharing the website....did they do "white glove service", ie set it up for you? I am so excited over this new washer and dryer....my old one has served me so well but it is 14 years old and it just is not large enough...it takes me all day to wash, because I can only put 6 of these Egyptian cotton towels in at one time or it strips the gears! And the spin cycle.....well lets just say the machine is trying to escape through the laundry window....WAY beyond "out of balance" and that is with carefully arranging and frequently re-arranging the clothes being washed...
I have the LG French door ref. with bottom freezer we bought last May. Love this thing!!!
I know what you mean about that spin cycle in the older washer. Mine was the exact same way. So much for a Maytag!

I've had an LG front loader for five years and also the matching dryer. There is absolutely no problem with mildew or an odor. I love both of them. Before that, I had the Maytag Neptune washer and dryer, and that was known to leave a small amount of water in the washer. I have shelving with doors above the washer and dryer, so there wasn't enough room for the pedestals height wise. They make it easier for your back. I hear the newer top loaders are easier on your clothes than the ones with the agitators. That's why I love the front loaders, since they are so gentle on your clothing. I love the colors on the machines. Mine are white, but the colored ones are so pretty. Good luck with whatever you get.

Buttt now it's time They have begun showing the ware and will I ever find something these days made half as good. By the way we still have our receipt for the Maytag set we pd 839.00 for the set feb 18,1984. Yes I have washed for a family of 4 including bedspreads, blankets, heavy cotton towels you name it never a problem. I have looked at front loaders and heard they have mildew odors. As someone else shared some washers are so deep that if you don't have long arms and legs you really have to work to reach the bottom. Not to mention as you get older leaning over to pull heavy linens out. So I'm reading your responses and trying to pay attention because I have already gone shopping for a new set and really got so frustrated. All the info you guys learn and share will be very appreciated. As its time to give up the maytag and they are not even built the same quality. Considering the speed queens too.
I know what you mean when your trying to find a replacement. It can be scary picking one and then finding it constantly breaks down or it stinks to high heaven. I do know one thing if and when I do buy a new set it will be through Sears. I only go through them because they offer the yearly renewing of their repair contract, no matter how long you want to keep buying it. On my current set I kept renewing mine for about 12 years, it gave me piece of mind. If just the circuit board went out it was going to be around $300-$400 to replace it.

My wife like ours. But I don't I like top loading so I can let stuff soak. But I can get dirty. If your cloths are only "Normal" wear it can be nice for that feature. But sometimes I can't get certain smells out with out a soak. Which front loaders you can't do. My only gripe.

2. Mine is a top loader and i am 5'2". After the wash ends it is very difficult for me to reach small things in the bottom of the washer (even on tip toe). So, if you are short like me, before you purchase go to the store and reach in to see if you can reach to the bottom.

Otherwise, I love them.
I have that exact problem. I am the same height as you and yup, getting those last few socks and undies are quite a challenge!

Mine are the lower end LGs but I love them. I got them in white, it was cheaper, and they look like giant rice cookers.

Oh yeah, I also like how the new top loaders don't have the agitator in the middle anymore. You can get a lot more stuff in there.

Thank EVERYONE for chiming in on this thread!!! There is NOTHING like experience when dealing with products...and this thread I think, has not only really fortified my choice in machines, but I have loved hearing all the different things people have to add to the conversation! I think a lot of people will take some valuable information away....

I know there are people that do notseem to benefit from Consumer Report, but without a husband, I have to have some kind of a starting point. Like a few have said it is so frustrating trying to even THINK about where in the world to start in a search for a product.....I always start with Consumer Report, and then I go from there....and I personally have done that since 1980 when I got my divorce....I have never regretted anything I have ever bought using this system and my stuff lasts for many, many years! Those of you that are just beginning your search, would not do any harm starting with Consumer Report, and then researching further on what they recommend.

I have a LG front load washer with a LG dryer stacked on top and I love it! Yes, there is an issue with odor but I think that is common with all front loaders. I leave the door open after my last load to dry the machine and I run a cleaning cycle about one a month. Front loaders are much more gentle on clothes and use less water and soap. And being able to stack the dryer saves room.

I do remember coming across some repairmen explaining how you can take the back panel off the washer a with few tweaks you can bypass the water saver feature so the machine will fill up with more water. Can't say how well it works I've never done this.

My LG has a feature that you can have it use more water by just a press of a button. They don't put a light in the washer, so you can leave the door open between uses to allow it to dry, but I have never had to do that. There is no smell. The Maytag Neptune always had that problem, but the LG does not. If I am concerned about anything dirty, I use a prewash cycle first. I wash my silks in my washer, Katie's cashmere sweaters, and many other delicate items. Even when I've accidentally used a small amount of bleach, it's so evenly distributed in the water, my clothes are always fine. I've had a front loader for so many years that I don't know how the newer top loaders work without the agitators, but I'm sure they are also great.

I know all the features and how to make it use the most water possible. Still front loaders don't use enough. They are known for that. They don't have a soak feature. For me really dirty clothes. A top loader without an agitator would work best. But for my regular clothes the front loader is fine. I have two washers. One nice front loader my wife who uses for everything . And a cheap top loader in my garage I hooked up for my work clothes. I was just pointing out ime the front loaders don't clean dirty clothes as well. Just something I think should be known.

I am not sure if mine is the same model but I have a top load LG washer and LG dryer. I have been very happy with them.

I originally purchased a Whirlpool, brought it home, hooked it up, and it wouldn't work. We returned it and researched washers. The reviews on LG were great so we ended up with LG.

The new LG top loader washer doesn't have that big agitator. The bottom has a high low which moves first one way then depending on the type and size of the load will go the opposite way. It doesn't continue to move like the old washers, it tends to stop here and there like soaking, again the length of time depends on what the load is and how big. You also have a choice of how much water, amount of time and so on by just pushing down and holding the start button. You can also take your smart phone and it will program into it so you can turn on and start your wash no matter where you are. I can't tell you how many features both the washer and dryer have. Many! I dearly love them and they sure are much quieter than the old ones.

Default Wow

I musta got a lemon with my LG front loaders ...
Yeh it has a lot of features , bells and whistles that attracted me, but the washer spin cycle creates a knotted up mess of clothes in final spin.
Plus it is so loud in final spin my DH mistook it for a helicopter soon after we got it! Saying " wow listen to that helicopter!" ..😱
It shook so bad we had a repair man come out but the repair didn't last and it still shakes really hard
