| any kindle fire owners? I need opinions from kindle fire owners or anyone who has looked at them and ipad2. I have a kindle 3 and love it. My brother showed me his ipad2 the other day and i fell in love the apps on it and the things he showed me. My friend has a fire and i loved it also. I fall in love with gadgets easily apparently. I know that the ipad 2 will go on sale prob by $100 in the next few months when the ipad 3 comes out. I can not decide whether to get a fire for 199 or wait and get the ipad 2 for 399. I do not have to have a camera since i know i am upgrading to an iphone 3s in may. Do not skype. I would be taking it with me a lot as i now do my kindle. I want it for apps, email, reading, etc. I have wi fi at home which is where i download things for the kindle. I have gotten opinions on another site and they suggest the fire would have what i need. My bro, says i will be disappointed and to spend the extra money. The difference in price is huge to me. And is a big factor. I hate making decisions like this. I am afraid i will regret it whatever i decide. Planning to go to best buy tomorrow to see if i can look at them side by side. The only thing i like better about the ipad is the screen size which is i think 2 inches bigger. Any opinions?

| I have the Kindle Fire and my Mom has the ipad2. I find that for the price the Kindle fire has everything I need, and for what my mom spent on the ipad she really would have been just as happy with the fire. She does seem to like the size of the ipad because her vision is not that great anymore. I however think the fire is plenty big enough and it's much easier to hold on to for reading, playing games and it's a perfect size to take with me in my purse. I use mine for games, e-mail, web browsing, and reading. I am also a frequent user of Amazon so it's perfect for me.

| That sounds like what i would use it for. I am amazon every other day, looking for books, (esp free ones). I have trouble seeing too, I wear bifocals and just found out i need special computer glasses for work at a call center due to eye strain. But, I take my glasses off to read usually. I really think the size is the main thing i have been debating about. Thanks

My furkids Donating Member | I just got the kindle fire last Saturday, for my birthday(birthday isn't until March). I LOVE IT!! It depends on what you want out of the tablet. You said you don't need it for pictures and the size it right for you...The KF does alot of stuff. And yes....there are TONS of free books. The Ipad is expensive and you have to pay a monthly fee...the KF you don't. However, it does come with Amazon Prime free for 1 month. this is for stream lining movies and tv shows...it costs 79.00 a month if you decide to keep it. If you wanted to watch a movie you could always buy it and have it loaded to you KF. And the best part!! It's WAY cheaper than the Ipad!! If you are on Facebook and type amazon kindle in the search it will bring up there page...like the page and they have free books all the time!

| I am on kindle every other night at least looking for free books for my kindle 3. I love free books. I like the apps that are avail. it is more a question now is will i go to best buy and buy it tomorrow, or order it online since i have a 20 gift card. I am not a patient person, so i am guessing by Sunday, i will have a kindle fire. Next problem: convincing hubby that putting new glasses AND a kindle on the credit card will not be a big problem. I will pay for the kindle my self, just lacking full funds right now. Also, I lost my debit card somewhere in this mess i call home. Thanks everyone I value people's opinions on here.

There is no monthly fee on the iPad, unless you get it with 3G. Also, the prime costs $79/year, not a month, this was probably an error . I have both the KF and the iPad. I like both, but because of the size I much prefer to read on the KF, or the original Kindle, which I have. The KF is lighted and is so small and light to hold for reading. I could not do without my iPad. Since I bought it, I hardly ever use my computer. One thing that I do not like on the KF, is the email app isn't so great. Plus, in my house, I don't get the wi fi on my second floor with the KF, as with the iPad I get wi fi all over the house. So, you have a tough choice. Good luck and let us know

| I have both the kindle fire and the ipad- I love them both for different things- the kindle is smaller, easier to carry around in my purse- the ipad is great to travel with, watch movies on, surf the internet, etc.

| And the winner is..... the kindle fire. I am now trying to decide if I will get one at Best Buy tomorrow or order it from amazon.com and wait a while. I am not a patient person, so may pay the extra in taxes. i was apply to mess around with a friend's fire today at work. He showed me how it works and what it can do. very impressed, more than just reading all the reviews. Thanks to everyone and thier opinions! I knew I could count on good advice here.

| I'd like to invest in a Kindle or Nook or something sometime soon. I wondered how it is to look at the screen to read. Does it strain your eyes? Bright lights hurt my eyes and can trigger migraines, can I dull the backgrounds or something so it's tolerable, or is it ok the way it is? I think I'd love one since my pc is in my room & I hate my dd's laptop with a passion. I'd just like to chill on the couch for once & check on YT.

| After a long time saying, I wanted to stay with regular books, I bit the bullet and bought a kindle 3. Of course, right before the price came down on them. I got the one with special offers. I highly recommend the one with the offers, as I have saved some money with the offers on things I would have bought anyway. My dh says it is the best thing I have ever bought. I think it has something to do with the fact he is not taking me to the used bookstore and spending about $20 every other weekend. He has discovered some of the games on it that he likes and plays them when waiting places like the dr's office. It is not hard on my eyes that i can tell. But.. I was just at the eye drs and since i am either at a computer or on my kindle about 10 -12 hrs every day, i have been straining my eyes. more to do with beginning cataracts they think. Getting computer glasses ordered today. The type can be set to whatever is good for you. My mom has hers set bigger than mine. My friend has a smaller type. There is no bright light. Due to the type of ink thingy they use, it is not lit. Though I have a cover that has a built in light. great when power goes out! Bite the bullet and you prob will not regret it. I researched and decided the kindle with keyboard was best for me.
