| I've come across alot of different breeds through my volunteering at the animal shelter, rescueing, and fostering. The ONLY dog I've ever been frightened of was one of my family members cocker spaniel. That dog tried to chew my face off every time he saw me, all because he wasn't socialized as a puppy. I own a PIT BULL (oh the HORROR.. look at her in my avatar..she's just sooo scary ). WHY do I own her? Because I choose to look past the myths and media hysteria about the breed. I saw a sickly 5 wk old puppy that would ultimately die if I hadn't rescued her. I'm saddened some people think she deserves to die just because of her breed. She's my big baby and would never hurt me or anyone else. She is my "heart dog" and I just dont' know what I'd ever do without her. Everytime I look at her I think of how lucky I am to have her. |

| Every breed has it's good and bad faults. Pit's I would just call "Unpredictable". Read too many stories about owner's who had the most well trained loveable Pit when it bit or attacked a family member or other dog just out of the blue! |

Or else they hit their dog everytime it "acts" out which leads to only masking the behavior .. not getting rid of it.. Like people, some dogs can only take so much.. I'd gladly bite a hand that hit or teased me.. JMHO..

i have had a retriver before I am interested in the pitbull because of their history. I want to see if it is possible to have a full blooded pitbull and still have a great pet around animals and kids and everyone and everything.

| Hmm..sometimes, but not always. Sometimes it's exactly what people claim it to be. It's unfortunate, but happens. Even with perfectly trained, never abused or teased dog. It would be nice if the theory that there is always a clear, logical, preventable cause and reaction, but reality is, that just isn't always the case. It just presents a bigger problem and response when the dog is one with the physical ability of causing more severe damage. Last edited by BamaFan121s; 05-02-2008 at 09:42 AM. |

its 100% possible to own a pit bull that gets along great with kids and other pets. my friend adopted a pit puppy from the shelter i worked at. that puppy grew up with 3 kids. Then two years ago when i got morgan, they hung out all the time. morgan walked all over her. every time the pit was around morgan she would lay down, and if she had to get up she would walk very slowly so as to not step on morgan. it was so cute.

| Who are you to say that I would even think of putting a person or animal at risk. There are people that own pits that are completely dedicated to having their dogs and their neighbourhood living in peace and take all precautions. Plus, I am not planning on getting one while I still have a Yorkie because if anything should happen to him then I don't know what I would do. So many people are so hooked on the fact that they were bred to fight that they do not realize that any dog that attacked a handler or any other human, it was put down! They are beautiful and wonderful dogs. And, why is it that the only people that support the "pitbull" breeds are pitbull owners and people that know that dogs are not born mean but can become that way if not properly disiplined. Maybe people that have a problem with pitbulls just are not educated on the matter.
