What to do when you're angry?

I don't get REALLY angry very often (zoloft helps ) but when I do I cry...and then that makes me madder I have also been known to clean loudly too. Hubby and kids have just learned to stay out of the way until it passes.

When I'm REALLY angry I just go outside and walk. I dont come back until I've calmed down enough that I can think and speak rationally. It all kind of depends on what works for you. If you like to write, I'd suggest you write it down. Just let out all of your frustrations on the paper, and don't censor yourself or anything - just let it happen. Some people like to listen to reall loud music (others like to listen to really soft, relaxing music).

I think you should experiment with it, and whichever one works best for you you should focus on. Good luck!

Thnx Megan! I also like to listen to music, like i like to blast it, not the one that will make me sad or even more angry but like clubbing music. It helps a lot but today i couldn't do that cause it was too late at night and i live in a building. I used to write in a journal when i was younger, like in middle school but i stopped doing that cause my family used to find them. lol

Generally I yell or curse, throw stuff (like shoes that won't hurt). Very, very rarely I will get so angry that I can just not control it, like last wk when I kicked the wall and almost broke my toe. Even at my angriest I would never hurt a person. I do need to get the anger under control before I have kids though. Maybe someone can offer a good suggestion for us both.

Thnx i feel like mine can get out of control too, like to me atleast cause of the shaking, etc. I never hit anyone, or anything like guys do 'cause im a girl i guess, and i don't like my furbabies to see me angry. If they see me crying they jump all over me and lick me. lol I throw stuff too! Like little things though, nothing that can break. I throw like my deodorant or something like that, is that normal? I need suggestions too...does anger management work?

I'm one of those wimps that tears up when I get mad, and then I get madder.

Actually, I don't get mad often, I'm usually - annoyingly to those around me - looking at the bright side.

But years ago, I discovered something that helped, and the family counseling agency where I worked actually used the idea. You know how you want to BREAK something (but don't want to break your stuff)? If you take a plastic ice cube tray and slam it on the counter, it sounds satisfyingly like breaking glass. When you feel better, a quick paper towel clean up, and you're a new person!!

I yell and rant and rave usually it's usually aimed at the kids not cleaning up or coming home to find poop in the laundry room/kitchen and the kids have sat there with it all day and say things like huh I never saw any....... I do the house cleaning thing too if i'm more upset about something then mad

If you feel that you are out of control so to speak or over the top it might be worth talking to someone about it.

I think writing in a journal is a good idea, or maybe working out might help you not get so angry as easily. Just ideas, it's different for every person.

If I'm really upset I'll cry. Sometimes I'll make a drink, I've gone for drives before (not when I had a drink though) or just go to sleep. I think what you do is normal, I could be wrong but I think Anger Management is for when you can't control your anger and it takes a toll on others.

yup that sounds a little like me except i don't break things. But i do do, say things i regret later depending on who im mad at. If it's my bf i do things i might regret later, if it's like my mom or family member i just sit alone somewhere and prob. pout and let time pass cause they are family and i know they always mean well. But if it's my bf im mad at oh gosh i get out of control I think i might need to go to those classes cause they sound like they worked!

lol Your post made me laugh! I guess i dont have to worry about the choc. cause when im mad or sad i lose my appetite completely and feel sickly. Sometimes my stomach starts to hurt and i feel like throwing up. I don't even like to see food when im sad. But when im happy im all for it, i love it

I usually go for a drive so I can think about what I am upset about and why. I usually calm down pretty quickly and go back home.
