I guess I am less sensitive about questions concerning my Yorkies. I get a LOT of questions and usually enjoy the admiration they are getting. Sure, people ask if my male is a teacup and I have to confess -- I don't lecture anyone about that. It is just a word. I say, "no, he is right in standard which is anything less than 7 pounds." I might go as far as to say, "Yorkies don't actually have a teacup class like poodles but he is on the small side." But I don't get aggravated just over the word.

They often ask how much they cost -- I usually reply with a non-commital answer like "more than I would like to admit but less than they are really worth!" But if it is someone who is really interested, maybe even thinking of a Yorkie for themself, I tell them what I paid. I have had a couple seem aghast at the $$$ and I just tell them, "Til I learned about Yorkies, NO ONE would have ever convinced me that I would pay that much for a dog either, but believe me -- they are more than a dog!" See, I remember my "BY days" (Before Yorkie days). The days when I thought a dog was a dog, when I thought paying over $1000 for a dog was absurd, when I just did not know the joys of being owned by Yorkies. When I was oblivious to Yorkie owners being so sensitive about questions and terminology. I am thankful when I asked my questions, I came across some nice folks willing to answer without being condescending or being offended by my curiosity!

It doesn't really help anyone to get out of joint with people. Maybe it isn't the most mannerly thing to ask cost -- but some people just want to know or maybe even just want to make conversation. No sense in getting ticked off everytime someone shows these wonderful dogs some attention. The same things that attracted us to them, will logically attract others. They may not always say the right thing but for the most part their interest is usually a POSTIVE thing. Be proud of the attention your little ones garner! Once again, JMHO!

What bugs me is that when people see Lucy and Rebel together, they accept that Reb is a yorkie but always ask if Lucy if full-blooded because she's bigger. She's 1 & 1/2 and weighs 11 lbs. She's a little chunky and her vet says she needs to lose 2 lbs. We've been walking lots more and playing in the yard more, but it hurts my feelings when people make a big deal out of Rebel and basically ignore Lucy. She's soooo loving and smart, I think she knows what they're saying!

I get the same thing my penny is about 10 pounds and my new guy Lucky is 5 lbs and when everyone see the both of them they go "oooh what a cute little puppy he's a yorkie right and but what is she" I stare at them and say what she's a f***king Bear j/k I usually small and tell them she's a yorkie and they go no she's not then go on to tell them that like human beings they come in all sizes then I get a look from them of confusiion and they respond I though they are like teacups and normal size of 5 lbs and I get mad again and tell them I'm short does that make me less of a human because of my height?? Then I give them the lecture that I rescue yorkies and have seen them in all sizes.

I also get alot of the how much did you pay? I tell them over two grand they stare in shock and then they go why sooo much and then I proceed to tell them how much would you pay for you child i bet at least half a million right??? Then they tell me so teacups must cost more. then in rage again I have to educate because everyone always says my friend is getting those teacup things and it is completely housetrained I just want to yell at them because people do not the do the research and take the time to learn about the breed is why so many pups are put in shelters, abandoned and it gets me soooo angry

Speaking of "teacups" I had a lady ask me the other day how much I paid for my 6 month old female and also I have a 13 week old male who is really tiny. She wanted to know if my older pup was his mother b/c she read somewhere ALL yorkies only get to 3 lbs. That made me mad and I was really trying to be polite and inform her the a 3lb Yorkie is not the norm.

I don't mind questions about my baby either. I guess because I've only had him a couple of weeks, and I'm a little vain that way

My family asks me how much I paid, but that is just because they all know how hard I had saved to buy my baby. Also my great aunt breeds them, so there's a general interest about them in my family.

I haven't been asked by a stranger, although a girl at petsmart the other day asked me if he was purebred. I thought that was a little snooty, but I have to admit that my reply "yes" was a little bit arrogantly toned as well....

Someone else that same day asked if he would get bigger, but I enjoy answering questions like that! It gives me a chance to talk about the dogs that I have come to love.

Unless their intentions are rude, I don't mind at all. They are only trying to be friendly, and I figure that maybe by learning a bit about yorkies these people will come to love the breed as much as I have!

Our girls love going on outings (they LOVE adults and kids) and we love taking them with us. We know if we take them with us we can plan on being at the location for at least 30 minutes to an hour longer than usual because we can't walk far without being stopped. Our girls are 2.5 pounds (3 yrs) and 3.5 pounds (2 yrs). We always get asked if they are sisters (the answer is no, but we always say they are step sisters), are they teacups (no, just small), do they have health issues (nope), are they full grown (yep), do they cost around $400 (more than that, but worth every single penny). Most of the time, they are dressed identical, with identical jewelry, and most of the time they walk on a single leash with a double lead, and it's great hearing everyone saying "oh, how cute"! We always get thanked for taking the time to let people see, hold, hug, kiss the girls (by as many men as women). We know how lucky we are to be blessed by these little creatures!

I have never had anyone ask how much I paid for the girls. I have had people ask what the breeder charges (if they are interested in buying one). I will then tell them what I paid. People pretty much know that they are higher priced. And, if I should decide to tell someone what I paid and they tell me I'm nuts I just tell them....If you want something badly enough...nothing is too expensive! And besides...THEY aren't the ones paying for it so why complain about the price...

No one knows buy my husband & I. My family would laugh me out of town. But if it was a heavy drinker quizzing me, I'd sure be tempted to ask how much they spend on beer or whatever their poison & then say, probably less than that & I have something that gives me joy instead of a hangover.

I get those kind of questions all the time! I pretty much stopped carrying my designer bags, because people make such a fuss. I know my city is on the smaller side (population 45,000) but come on!

One lady stopped me as I was going into the check out in Wal-Mart (and I happened to be buying some personal things so I just wanted to go in, grab the stuff, run to the cash, & get out, but NOOOO. lol

She was like (in a VERY loud voice) "OMG!!! That's a great fake! I'll bet it was expensive! Where'd you find it?! On eBay, I bet. I want one just like it! Give me the info. so I can get one!" I almost said "F**k off, lady" to her, too. But I ended up saying "Go to the Louis Vuitton boutique in Toronto, you'll find one there." LAME, I know, but I wanted to get the heck outta there. This whole time I was holding the "stuff" LOL

Default Cost of Yorkies and Rude people

When i had my flyfishing shop in Aspen, I always took my yorkies Sugar and Spice to work with me, Sugar was 4 1/2 lbs and Spice was 3 lbs. They were glued to my hip for 15yrs. and went to work every day, They had a nice big basket on the counter, and of course when no one was in the store they had the run of the store. To make a long story short, this couple came in and fell in love with Sugar and Spice, she asked what i paid for them and I told her 2,000.00 for both. She said she would give me 4,000.00 for them, as she was just in love with them, and the fact that they were so well behaved, and just sat in their little basket greeting customers, that she just had to have them, I polietly told her 3 times that they were not for sell, and she kept telling me that she just had to have mine. I told her that if she put the work in her yorkies as i did mine they would be just as nice. No she just wanted mine. I finally had to ask she and her husband t leave my store, that she was not getting my yorkies no matter what price she offered me, and as she was almost pushed out the door by me, was still insisting i sell her my yorkies. She kept saying she was giving me double what i paid for them, and i said no, i would not sell them for 1,000.000.00 dollars they are not for sale ,and that is final. Out of my store, and please do not return!

I guess it takes all kinds to make a world, but after she left I locked the door and took an hour to calm myself down. It was like she was going to take them over my dead body if she had to. Some people do have a lot of nerve, i was so close to calling the police to get them out of my store. Thank the Lord i was able to get them out, have a break, and get back to my business.

I've always disliked and thought it was rude to ask anyone what they paid for anything. I've always considered my personal finances my business and would never ask someone what they pay for anything. I get the t-cup question all the time with AprilLove and my response is always no, she is a just a Yorkie. When people ask what I paid for her (and that happens often as well) i just tell them she is worth more than any amount someone would pay for her. Then I walk away, before I turn into a smart-**s and ask why its important they know that anyhow?

Those are the same people who ask your income, etc., etc., etc. I wrote the big check for Sophie years ago without hesitation.

I was offended at Lowe's yesterday when some ill mannered man looked at Charlie in the shopping cart and said "where did you get that dog, the shelter?". To which I replied, Charlie is a rescued dog. Chalk it up to bad manners and lucky he didn't have a bruise from me punching him in the mouth. Of course, I wouldn't do that and tend to look at them with a look that says "moron".

Personally, I have had more fun buying Charlie cute shirts, fleece coats, and variety of harnesses. Life is short, so enjoy your pups, dress them up and ignore other's comments.

I hate that question because you never know if they are just probing you to see how much the dog is worth and then try to steal it! I am very leary here we have had a lot of thefts of yorkies and i get really scared. i don't like to talk to people who stop in front of my house thats the worst i always scoop them up say hi and walk in the house i get so paranoid. i don't even like taking them to petsmart anymore because when i walk in with them i get surrounded and i get scared i have so many people asking questions and touching them that the staff comes over and ushers me off to help me last time i took Daisy i had a guy following me around the store he freaked me out so i had a guy staff member walk me to my car i thought this guy was going to try to steal her .
I also get those is that a t-cup? will it get any bigger how old, where did you get it. i don't mind answering questions it comes with the turf of these babies but geeze!!!!!!

They always ask: how much she weighs, is she a teacup, where I got her, how much she costs, how old she is, and will she get any bigger.

A lot of people don't even ask those questions, they just assume. "Oh my! What a beautiful teacup Yorkie. She must be a puppy! How old is she? 2-3 months? Will she get very big? I bet she was expensive!" UGH! Then I have to give my teacup lecture

One man at the pet store recently, leaned in to Chloe (to "pretend" whisper) & said "Tell your Mommy to take that stupid crap [bow] off your head & to stop dressing you up!"

I could NOT believe it...I wanted to kick that man's butt.
WHAT A JERK!!!!!! IF I WERE IN YOUR SITUATION, i WOULD HAVE DONE SOMETHINGO TO THAT MAN AND IF HE WORKED THERE I WOULD GO TO MANAGEMENT I ASK FOR AN APOLOGY. TO TEACH HIM BETTER NOT TO MENTION I WOULD NEVER RECOMEND THE STORE. THAT MAN IS JUST A HATER. THAT´S ALL, WHAT A POOR SOUL. NOT TO MENTION A LOSER

I don't mind telling people what we paid for peeka and boo $1400.00 for both of them together (great deal) but i get a little ancy about Daisy we paid almost double that for her and i don't like to advertize that.
