I think that a committee should be formed with enough people to get the job done, but not too many that a decision can't be made.

I think that there are some questions to be asked. Some financial, what can you or can't you do to collect fees for the event. Does it matter what state you meet in for that.

If you have vendor booths, what happens if you decide to have it in an area with unions (some areas you are not even allowed to lift a table with out paying the union).

What about potty area requirements, fire marshall, etc..... Do you have to have a permit to have the meeting in that area?

Now, I think any good hotel or meeting place could help answer some of the questions, but, if we are serious about doing this we need to ask.

Those are excellent points!! I think when the location is decided a couple of folks need to be on the committee from that area so they can be the hands on contact people to get those questions answered etc. I think that maybe a vacation fund can be set up and those wanting to attend could make payments thru paypal to the central account!! Similar to what we are doing now for the raffle??? that way deposits to hotels etc could be made and all of that!! Of course your dealing with folks money so it needs to be handled appropriately!!! Just some ideas!!!

I just caught on to this thread, but I'm soooooooooo excited at the prospect of a HUGE meet-up!!!!!!!!! I'd like to do one HUGE meet-up the first year, and then maybe we could separate it out into East/West the following years. Maybe we can just alternate each year between West, Central, and East. I'm in CA, so of course I'd love to do it in LA or San Francisco (didn't San Fran get the #1 most dog friendly city for 2006?), but I also love the idea of Kansas City or St. Louis!!! I'll go check out the poll and vote.

I am pretty much game to go anywhere but I would love it to be somewhere where there are lots of things to do like San Diego California, etc so that I can stay longer and vacation. If you need help and more people on the commitee I would also love to help!!

This may be repetitive, but if you got to the following dogfriendly.com site, it lists the 10 most dog-friendly cites in the U.S.....and guess what? Chicago is #1!

well right now we are thinking... one day... and it is mainly a "meet up" but we were thinking that maybe between the hours of 12-4 or something.. people can sell stuff.. because i LOVED buying and Jodie was saying she loved to sell but she felt she coudlnt' socialize as much... so if before 12 we have socializing or activieis and then after 4 we can have a supper together or somethign.. just rough plans.. but that's the general idea.. what do you think??? as a seller at the Yorkie Fair did you feel you would have liked more time to roam around and talk??? do you think the hours for selling are a good idea?

oh dear, soooo much reading and no time but I sure am pretty excited if this does happen . . . Annika and I will be there I do like the idea of being a vendor so I can recover some of the expense even if it isn't 100% It sure helps to keep the $$$$ spending to a minimum
