| I don't know why yall can keep saying this person knows so much when she said puppy millers are one of the only ones who care about standard when we all know they could care less. I'm sure that the pms are flying off the walls about me again. But all the haters win so make sure you know Taylor is done her mouth is shut, you all win and can pat yourself on the back because you completed your mission after years of this yall have finally won and beat me down. Congrats! |

| Ive always wanted a parti-yorkie and specifically set out to buy one. I had no idea they were thought of as lesser yorkies. My baby is akc registered and her ears aren't up yet but I don't care. |

Well not *lesser* exactly. They are non standard colors - and color is very very important to the Tan and Blue Yorkie Standard. They have been shown to be Yorkies through prior DNA testing. But they can't be shown in fact there is an automatic DQ for their coloring in the AKC show ring. They can be AKC registered as purebred but they are not able to be shown in the ring. Like it or not, breed standards are present to protect and preserve the breed(s) throughout history that early breeders developed. Color Standard is in all breeds! For example in the breed I breed, any other color than black is an automatic DQ - it can be registered as purebred, but should never be bred. Thankfully now we have a genetic test for the Black color gene.

May seem like an odd question. What makes the parti coloring an automatic disqualification? Does have rounded instead of the V-shaped ears, undocked tail, or a bad bite also merit an automatic disqualification? Obviously you can tell I don't show . | |

| There aren't many who meet any decent standards.

Some people want advice that is correct and some want advice that tells them what they want to hear.. Just the way things are.

| I would love for tail docking to be a thing of the past, but since it's in the standard (for now, hopefully), I won't turn down a reputable breeder because of it. I also wouldn't turn down a breeder for not doing it if they seem like a reputable one despite not following that one part of the standard. Now dewclaws... I don't know about those. As long as my vet can cut them, I guess they're alright. I hate cutting nails!!! |

| Ummm......a breeder is when 2 dogs mate and make puppies. So your friend is a breeder. There are plenty of mixed breeds in shelters so why add. Spay and neuter pets so there are no Oooops breedings.

The only thing I know for sure is not docking a tale is in no way a sign that a breeder is not reputable. And I can tell in the US the tide is turning in the direction of undocked tails. Gail you may know the answer to this, is the US the only country where a docked tail on a yorkie is still considered standard?

| Since I know the story and you don't, her friend bred the two dogs because she wanted to and had friends and family members that wanted pups from this pair and ALL and even more were spoken for so none will wind up in shelters they will all be well loved pups. Getting a dog from a shelter is wonderful and as many people as can should, but everyone has the right to choose a new puppy if that is what they prefer. Dogs are not in shelters because they are mixes, but for a wide variety of reasons.

It is not because i feel everyone should adopt that I speak out. You CAN purchase from a reputable breeder. They do exist. They just don't give what the public wants...or shall I say some of the public. People have a right to do as they please. To me the question is this: Is it "right" to do it to the pups? I just saw a home breeder lose her female the other day...she posted it on a yorkie fb page. I have seen this so many times. Oh well......

to me it's no more right for a "reputable" breeder or a show breeder to do that to the pups either but people want puppies just like people want babies, even though LOL I would hate to put myself through it many people do. Dogs of course can't make that choice but I bet dogs owned by reputable breeders don't feel any different about being bred than those owned by a loving family. But my post was not about birthing puppies it was about the philosophy that if you want a mix then you should go to the pound.

People say go to the pound because quite frankly you are paying for something that is not worth what is being charged in most cases. It is sad and all about marketing...and again, bottom line.
