Well not *lesser* exactly. They are non standard colors - and color is very very important to the Tan and Blue Yorkie Standard. They have been shown to be Yorkies through prior DNA testing. But they can't be shown in fact there is an automatic DQ for their coloring in the AKC show ring.


They can be AKC registered as purebred but they are not able to be shown in the ring.


Like it or not, breed standards are present to protect and preserve the breed(s) throughout history that early breeders developed. Color Standard is in all breeds! For example in the breed I breed, any other color than black is an automatic DQ - it can be registered as purebred, but should never be bred. Thankfully now we have a genetic test for the Black color gene.
