1st yorkie pup! Please help. Any advice on undocked tails or Parti coloring?

I'm sorry you felt that way. I just don't sugar coat things and in the past before what you are talking about happened you did single me out and were nasty to me and very sarcastic. If you don't like me you can put me on your ignore list. It has nothing to do with not agreeing with someone's opinions but being treated poorly, sarcastically and like I'm an idiot. I'm glad you were not a member at the time and didn't have to see the person who was following me and stocking me and bullying me it was rough. I am not making up the hits people take at me as many have seen it some to scared to say anything that they pm me about it. I also know for a fact nasty pms are going around about me that are very hurtful and just mean. One of my issues is I am unable to filter things I just say things straight out and that is one of the reasons it is suspected I have functioning Autism. I'm not out to hurt anyone my main concern is always the dogs. I posted my concern in your thread about the puppy because I am very concerned period they was no alterer motive I don't do things like that. It's not about you or so and so it's to me just about the dog. I work on what I can but at the end of the day I am who I am. I have a big heart and once your my friend your my friend I will back you up until the end and stand behind you. I'm not a mean person nor do I search people out to hurt there feelings or be mean to them because that simply is not who I am.

I await correction - but in England it is encouraged to sterilize dogs. Some other countries no it is not illegal but not necessarily encouraged. In afew it is illegal unless sterilization is medically necessary.

I was just curious because I remember a conversation with my friend in Germany about her hound dog not being neutered because it was against the law....considered animal cruelty removing something they were born with. I will ask her and update!

This thread is bulging with opinions, which in a way shows how passionate we are about Yorkies, even though we do have different preferences.

To answer your original question: Yes, I would buy a Parti Yorkie, and one with a natural undocked tail.

That would suit me just fine, I would just try to get a healthy pup from a good breeder, and then..... I would love that pup unconditionally forever.

I hope you are able to make your own decision, and that you will share your choice with all of us, and know that we too, will love that pup no matter what anybody says.

Unless you want a "show quality" or "breed standard", you don't have anything to be concerned about. Judging by what you said in your first post, it certainly doesn't mean that anything is wrong with the breeder. My baby is a Yorkie/Maltese mix, and his Yorkie father had floppy ears and an undocked tail, but I didn't care (in fact, I love it, he has his dad's ears and mom's tail, hehe). The breeder was kind, informed, her home was spotless, and it was easy to see that she cared so much for her babies. As far as I'm concerned, as long as the parents and the pups are healthy and the breeder is reputable, you don't have to worry about a thing.

Puppy mills don't care about the standard or even quality they simply care about quantity and money. I do worry about you not really knowing about puppy mills by your comment that there one of the only ones who cares about the standard because I'm pretty sure you could ask owners of several puppy mills what the standard is and they would have no idea. The snobs being another one of the people you say only care about the standard bothered me badly maybe to a point I got to defensive but it was a hurtful comment. I am not a snob I am simply a lover or yorkies standard or not and I certainly don't have a perfect yorkie in the standards eyes. I speak out about reputable breeders so much for one reason because my baby came from a puppy mill and has had to suffer terrible issues and pain because they didn't care about health so I try to push people probably to hard in the direction of a reputable breeder because I don't want someone else to have to watch there dog like that and if we stop buying from puppy mills and non reputable breeders they will eventually have to go out of business. These dogs this breed is in my heart. I have a big love for them and I just want what is best for them and for the breeders who aren't doing right by them to not make money.

This post touched my heart and I think I really hear what you are saying. I appreciate your passion on this subject and the fact that it is rooted in watching your own baby suffering. I also agree with you personally in the fact that I too have fallen madly in love with the Yorkie breed. The OP also mentioned that she fell in love with the yorkie breed. So, for that reason, I would choose to purchase a yorkie for myself from the best breeder who in my estimation was trying to epitomize that breed and all the fabulous things I think are unique to it. I believe that we could end up losing the breed if we loosen up too much on those standards. As for the tail docking, I am going along with it but secretly longing for the day when the U.S. follows the rest of the world. This is all just my own opinions and thoughts. Now if you really want some passionate talk, just get me going on circumcision of our precious human babies, LOL. Just kidding. Let's not even go there.

Boy all this talk makes me happy I adopted a rescue with no papers! lol. She's a pet…her ears stand up, her tail is docked, she has the right colors and her coat is silky. She looks like a Yorkie, acts like a Yorkie..so to me she is a Yorkie But she may be a mix. I completely understand the debate about keeping the breed standards. I am not knowledgeable enough to really debate in this conversation. But it has made me curious. I do know that if I were to have spent anything over $1500 for my puppy, I would expect her to conform to the standards. But, I still don't understand why they ever even started to dock the tails? To be honest, I think they look odd chopped off. Given a say in the matter I would have said for my pet, just leave her tail alone. Again, if she were a show dog, I guess thats a whole different world. I don't see how when a human chops off a "genetically" perfect tail, makes it a standard preference. I know it is, but why? Who ever thought of that and was there a legitimate reason? I am curious about why docking ever became a thing.

Docking of the tail did have a reason way back when. The Yorkshire Terrier is a great dog for catching mice and rats. They were a working breed. The tails were docks because the tails would get caught on things while they were working, or get stepped on because the dog were working where their owners worked and it was a busy place. If say the dog worked at a mill to keep away rats and mice then their tail could get caught in the working machines of the mill. If there in a blacksmith shop their tails could get burned.

Docking the tails had a purpose at one point. It just isn't the case anymore.

I appreciate your input & huge amount of knowledge. I was pretty overwhelmed by the amount of responses and all the conflicting info & conversations, so I never got to anwsering everyone's follow-up questions. She had a spay & neuter contract that required the contact info for the vet we would use, and introduced me to her vet who does spay/neutering for a discount for her pups since he's her vet for all her adults & she refers the owners of her pups to him. She informed me that that vet can do tail docking when they're under already for the spaying/neutering if wanted (if I do end up getting the pup, I wouldn't want it done for the record. She will just be my pet anyway and if the breeder never did it, I certainly wouldn't get it done by choice afterwards. I figure there's no point. I see the point in breeders doing it before pups are sold, but it's a pointless thing to do IMO if she's already a pet in my possession). She offered everything else I would look for in a breeder. A 5 year health guarantee, pedigree, lifetime breeder support, and even included a free year of puppy health insurance for vet visits (she registers & pays for insurance for all her pups for 1 year to make the first year of ownership easier on her customers). These pups' dam was 5th generation of ones she has bred, her retired adult had even more generations with her. And she says she knows the pedigrees & histories of the generations before they were with her. as well
Like I said, I have a lot of experience as my family bred bulldogs for a long time. So I know about things like neuter contracts/pedigrees/health guarantees/etc. It was just the breed specific Yorkie things I was fairly uneducated on. All of her general breeding practices went above & beyond my standards. However, I had no clue about whether or not a reputable breeder breeds this coloring or leaves tails undocked.
