Lovely

Sounds like this lady is either in total denial or she just doesn't care that she is breeding genetic problems that will be passed on to her puppies and become the problems of their new owners. I wonder how many other people have tried to get their money back?!? I am guessing this isn't the first time since she admitted that soft spots are a "normal thing" for her.

I am sorry you are having these issues. The breeder seems to be perhaps not even a 'quality' person...her breeding skills may reflect her personality, if that's how she treats her customer who call...talking over you, etc.

I hope things work out the way you need them to...for you, your DH, and especially for little Zoey.

Soft spots ARE acceptable and common and even considered normal in Chihuahuas....NOT bulging, throbbing, protruding lumps, poking up thru the open font, but just an open font in a chihuahua IS NOT considered to be breeding genetic problems! There are many, many Chihuahuas with open fonts......not considered a fault and these babies live perfectly normal lives. NOT something we accept in Yorkies, but in Chis, it is OK!!! They should NOT get larger as the baby matures tho....they will usually close down some, but if they do not close up completely, that is not a positive, clear indication of hydrocephalus. If a lump pushes up into the open font, throbbing, pulsating, etc...THAT is an indication of a build up of intracranial fluid and is indicitive of hydrocephalus. Having an open font does not automatically mean hydrocephalus or the likelyhood or probability of the development of hydrocephalus. I am not taking up for this "breeder's" actions, but I hate to see anyone crucified for something that is considered acceptable in another breed. She should have really educated her buyer on this condition and allowed her to express concerns she may have.

she did say it was normal in long haired chiwawas zoey is I believe 25 percent of chi...maltese....Yorkie...lhasa apso....However she lied about how big it was...and when I went to the vet yesterday and saw that he was alarmed at the size of it I freaked out and he also said it most likely wont close bec it's large but may get smaller...There is no bulging as far as I can tell and the dr would have said something. ..I just would like to add she has two which she also failed to mention then the vet found one on each side he said they will most likely close because they are like half a pea...ahhhhh.

The situation is so unfortunate....this may never develop into anything worse at all, but it could end up breaking your heart. Instead of enjoying your little girl, you are going to be walking on egg shells, waiting for the other boot to drop...... If this lady would have only been honest with you from the very beginning, all of this may be a moot point. I know NOTHING about the other breeds that are in Zoeys make up.....I know NOTHING about the vulva issue....someone else covered that issue and it does not sound promising....as much as it is going to hurt you to part with Zoey, I think in your same position, I may let her go back to the breeder. And I would then take my refund and find me a reputable breeder. I try to live by my motto, "If it hurts, dont do it".....I think it is too painful to KNOWINGLY assume care of a potentially ill puppy, that I would fall in love with and then suffer heartbreak as I watched that baby die. THAT is why I have such a HUGE respect and appreciation for these people that rescue these babies....I just could not continue to loose pup after pup and continue on.....I am not up to that....You have to figure out how much you are up to, both financially and emotionally....that will help you decide what is best for you.

I am just so sorry for this whole situation. Sorry for Zoey and sorry for Amy.

I will pray for a solution that will let Zoey LIVE a long and healthy life. If she were mine, I would do everything in my power to ensure that, and would not be concerned over money paid for her, or the the possibility of illness in the future.

She has not been diagnosed with any life threatening illness YET. Just because the vet found a few imperfections, this is not a death sentence.

Please Amy, just love your adorable little Zoey, and get over the fact that you might not have gotten all that you thought you paid for. Like many things in life, it's not all about money, and little Zoey is depending on you to stick up for her and protect her.

I can't see anything from that picture, but then I wouldn't expect to. I would be very concerned about a one inch opening in relation to her head size. I'm wondering if she has had an increase in size since the first 2 vets did not seem that concerned.

I wish there were some easy answers for you. Only you can decide what is best for you and your family. I don't know what I would do in your position. After 7 weeks, there is no doubt you are attached to her and want only the best.

Hey when did hers close? Do u exactly how big it was? My zoey is 4 months old[/QUOTE]

Sorry just saw your question. Hers was about the size of a dime or maybe half an inch. I asked the vet when I first got her because she was so tiny to check for this. The vet checked again at her spay (1 year old) and it had closed up. I pray all works well for your little one.

I despise people who rip other people off by not disclosing the truth. I would not let this rest until that woman who is breeding unhealthy dogs gets her day in court. I would be so mad! To have the nerve to sell me a sick dog. You go after her and she better pay up all those vet bills or meet me in court! Bad breeders need to be stopped and put out of business.

Every Chi that we had when I was growing up, had a soft spot, and we never had any pups suffer from hydrocephalus. There again, we are talking about the size of a dime, not a quarter, which sounds like the inch long soft spot you are talking about! So while it is NOT considered "normal" or "common" or "acceptable" in Yorkies, it is in Chihuahuas....at least that is the information in breeding circles back in the early 70's.
Is Applehead Chihuahua an actual classification of Chis? I thought calling one applehead was the same lines as calling a yorkie teacup?
