| ![]() she said she gets the soft spot all the time esp in her little ones...i think shes a far cry from spaying any male or female that would cause that in her line bec she thinks its normal since she said her previous customers have the spot and the dogs are doing fine (she use long hair apple head chiwawas so she says its common) its just that she lied about how big the soft spot is now that i fell its like i good portion of zoey head (on top) i hope it closes by some miracle or at least gets to the 1/16 of an inch...there was a customer of lora that got something like hydrocephalus (not hydrocephalus but something like it) but the customer said it was a reaction to the bordetella because the had given her too much! ![]() Are we talking about an applehead Chihuahua? Open fonts ARE common and are considered "normal" in applehead Chihuahuas....I used to breed them years ago, for a very short time, and they all had open fonts. They were not huge soft spots....maybe around the size of a dime....but when I was being mentored, all the breeders passed on the knowledge that open fonts were considered common in Chis and as long as they were not huge, there would be no problem! Every Chi that we had when I was growing up, had a soft spot, and we never had any pups suffer from hydrocephalus. There again, we are talking about the size of a dime, not a quarter, which sounds like the inch long soft spot you are talking about! So while it is NOT considered "normal" or "common" or "acceptable" in Yorkies, it is in Chihuahuas....at least that is the information in breeding circles back in the early 70's. | |

What is concerning is that this one seems to be growing at a rate disproportionate to the rest of the pup's growth (from half a pea-sized to an inch per the OP). That's suggestive of increased fluid buildup.

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | ![]() The problem is you now have 3 pre-diagnosed conditions that would not be covered.

| ![]() I have Trupanion too & really like them. But it's true...you do have pre-existing conditions already. Good luck with little Zoey. I really hope it all works out for the both of you.

![]() ![]() I have never had them grow in size...most closed down, though not completely closed....started out the size of a dime and would close down to about 1/2 that size. Never had to take any special precautions with the soft spot!! Was not like it was a big issue.....I guess because it is considered normal in Chis! But I dont think it should be getting larger in size....that would indicate a build up of fluid in the brain..... | |

| ![]() I've been feeling so bad for you Amy-I know I'd be so upset if I were you. However, let me play devil's advocate here, & keep in mind that I'm very inexperienced with medical problems: 1) The soft spot thing: I wonder how much Chi is in her because it sounds like this might be something that's not really uncommon or problematic. If you're lucky this could be nothing. (If you take a dime & put it on the spot is it bigger than that?) 2) LP thing: Both my dogs had a little clicking when young & they've not once had any kind of problem with their knees. They're 9 & almost 6 now. 3) The vulva thing: Maybe you just need to keep it clean. Many of us Yorkie mamas wipe that thing off once or twice a day. I just thought maybe looking at the best case scenario could help you. (LOL, I am not a friend of the breeder!! ![]() Take care,

| ![]() Did you sign up for Trupanion's free trial period through your vet? If you did, check your policy - or ask your vet's receptionist/business manager to check it. You could still be okay. I signed up for the free month trial & was covered for a lot of things. Plus, got back alot of money.
