I used to see distilled water sold for equipment in other departments. Distilled water for human consumption is sold along with all the other water products in the food department.

It certainly would be less expensive than buying bottled water and certainly worth while if it works for your baby's eyes.

Gerber baby water also worked for us. I tried regular distilled and it didn't do a dang thing for us.... Finding the right food for Taycie also helped as well. But as far as water goes, I have tried other brands, keeping filtered water in my fridge etc.. and her eyes start to run.

I have had the the best luck with the Gerber Water!

Morning Jae Dawn! Until we can track some down in the UK - is it worth trying boiled tap water? I always keep a jug in the fridge for our Harry.

And we buy all our meat, fish, veggies and fruit from our local farm shop, it's all organic with no 'added extras' - Harry loves it all as much as we do, and I must admit we've never had a problem with staining.

What I do do is remove the little brown boogers when they're soft, as soon as I see them - Andy's well trained on this one too, now! Sally + Harry x

Boiling the tap water would kill bacteria, but the minerals, which are heavier than water would stay in the pan and even be more concentrated in the remaining water. The way distillation takes place is water is boiled and steam goes up a tube which leads to another container and the water vapor turns back into water and the minerals are left behind.

If your dog is only having a few boogers, that's no big deal, dogs with problems have major tearing and it's wet all the time.

You'd have to boil it let the steam get caught on a vapor catch and then drain into a filter...then its distilled as opposed to purified.

I was just trying to find out what process the Gerber company uses to purify their water. All I could find out is that it is a "multi step" process. While I give Gracie distilled water I usually drink Aquafina bottled water and it does explain it's process online. Does anyone know the process that the Gerber company uses to purify their nursery water?

My granddaughter, age 10, keeps telling me to buy my own filter and stop buying bottled water because of all the plastic used. I tell her I recycle, and I do, but she is not satisfied with that answer. I suppose I will eventually buy a water filter if I can find one that can do what I would like it to do. I have a friend that put a water distillation device in their house when they built it. They get it from a separate tap on their kitchen sink. I don't think that is going to happen here though.

I use filtered water for the water I drink, it removes the chlorine which can affect the taste, the filters can also remove fluoride and pesticides, it depends on the filters. The filter water did not help with Joey's eyes only the distilled water did. I believe my container of Gerber’s water said "Distilled water", so that means they use the distilling process. By the way, those under the sink setups are great, all you need is the extra hole in the sink, and some sinks already have an extra hole hidden by a cap. Also, if you get a new faucet some don't require the traditional three holes so you have holes left over.

I know there are so many different methods of filtering that it is difficult to decide if any of the home types would actually take out all the elements that I would like to be rid of.
Did not realize that they had under the sink distillers. My friend had a distiller in the cellar that was piped up to the kitchen sink. I'll have to look into the under the sink units.
When I went to the Gerber website they said their nursery water was purified by a multi step method but did not identify it as distilled. I know they have at least 2 different types of bottled water that they sell. I'll have to look at the bottles again next time I go to the store.

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that the under the sink filters were distillers, they just filter water, they don't take out minerals. I wonder if you friend has a "reverse osmosis" system, that take minerals of the water too. Also, there’s the other type of water softening system (Calgon) that uses salt, to change the molecules.

Gerber’s says it adds minerals back for taste, that means it removed all of them in one of the earlier steps, then adds a few back, but it still has way less than some tap water. I would think an actual distiller would be a little dangerous. When people were making their own hard liquor from corn, they had to distill the contents, and these stills often blew up. Here’s what a still looks like. If you friend has this in her basement, my guess is she might be making moonshine!

Well, I never actually went down in the basement to check it out but they say it is a water distiller. The house was built about 10 years ago. They were very involved it the design and construction of the house so I assume they know what they are talking about. They don't drink alcohol so I doubt it is moonshine, unless they are making it to sell for profit!

I've heard some great things about the reverse osmosis system, and that was really popular around 10 years ago. The Calgon system that uses salt, is a much older system.
