Oh, yeah. My sister-in-law had one of those water softener things years ago and it was almost as bad as the well water that she had. She lived in an area where the water was so bad it would turn things a rust color. The water softener may have made her laundry come out better but the water was not fit to drink.

Yes, we had house at the lake, and you'd think the water would be excellent, but it was hard and rusty. So we had to use the Calgon with rust removal, and you're so right, the water tasted horrible! City water came in after I left, it has to be better than that.
