Did not realize that they had under the sink distillers. My friend had a distiller in the cellar that was piped up to the kitchen sink. I'll have to look into the under the sink units.
When I went to the Gerber website they said their nursery water was purified by a multi step method but did not identify it as distilled. I know they have at least 2 different types of bottled water that they sell. I'll have to look at the bottles again next time I go to the store.
Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that the under the sink filters were distillers, they just filter water, they don't take out minerals. I wonder if you friend has a "reverse osmosis" system, that take minerals of the water too. Also, there’s the other type of water softening system (Calgon) that uses salt, to change the molecules.

Gerber’s says it adds minerals back for taste, that means it removed all of them in one of the earlier steps, then adds a few back, but it still has way less than some tap water. I would think an actual distiller would be a little dangerous. When people were making their own hard liquor from corn, they had to distill the contents, and these stills often blew up. Here’s what a still looks like. If you friend has this in her basement, my guess is she might be making moonshine!
