| Most yorkies bark some more than others. You can shake a can of change at them and tell them no bark

| Yorkies will bark, that is a sure thing. But you can do things that will limit excessive barking. First of all, make sure they get enough exercise so they are not doing it out of boredom. When my pup hears a noise outside and starts to bark, I have her come to me to "look" and take her to the window to check it out and we talk about what it is--"oh, that is the neighbors, it is okay." or "Here comes the garbage truck." When we are playing chase in the house, she will start barking and barking, so I give her a toy to have in her mouth and she can't bark as she runs around getting chased! You can also teach them to "Speak" and then "quiet." I don't want to keep her from barking if she needs to tell me something, just put a limit on being yappy! Want to hear what others do. Please give more advice.

Yorkies do bark and some never do really stop! It is especially a problem if they hear noises, which they definitely will hear if there is a hallway where other people walk. If this is going to be a deal breaker, please think long and hard about getting a yorkie or any pup for that matter. If it did not work out, it will be so sad for everyone, most especially the yorkie. I see this kind of thing happen a lot. Maybe you should speak with your neighbors about whether or not it would bother them?

| My Zhoie didn't come home until 12 wks, she is now 9 mos and I think she already had her behavior pattern pretty well down. She is a laid back little girlie, but from past experience with other dogs, we learned not to encourage barking, i.e.....never have them speak for something..like food. If she barks to just get your attention, don't acknowledge her/him, turn your back. This only takes a minute and then you can go on as usual. This hasn't stopped her from letting me know if something is out of the oridinary or there is a strange sound, but all in all, she is not a yapper. Oh yeah, like if someone comes to the door, don't say, who's that, who's that etc. I feel those things is what encourages barking. Hope, this helps, it's only my personal experience, she's my 1st yorkie and learning as I go for sure. Good Luck, you will love it, they really take your heart!! |

| Oh, this above idea on the can with coins. I do know my breeder works with the pups from the time they move out of the small room into the larger part of her house by using a small can with pebbles in it. She said she rolls it across the floor and says a firm (Aatt). When Zhoie does something, I can still say the word and she listens. |

| I do not allow barking. It is corrected in the same manner as any other bad behavior. I use the Dog Whisperer method. A nip lon the neck and shhhhhttttttttttt After a few times all it takes is shhhhhhhhttttttt. and they stop. They bark hen someone comes to the door, but quiet down when they are in the house. They bark at squirrels and rabbits. But stop when thdey are told to. So which ever method of correction you choose to use, be consistent. Oh they also have these bird house looking things, that give off a sound when the dog barks. It is a sound that only dogs can hear and they do not like. I have not tried it but some on here have and says it works great. Bark Control Birdhouse < Bark Collars | PetSafe Products |

These wonderful little dogs are wonderful watch dogs and they are terriers who will let you know about a leaf falling outside. I live alone so I am thrilled with this but it could bother some neighbors.

| My experience with yorkies is, they generally only bark alot with company, or if they have access to a big window to view lots of things to bark at. Loud noises did to do it too. If you are going to cinfne your yorkie during the day I would recommend more then a crate, seems the more room they have the less barking, cause they can get quite bored. Bloodlines help, I have some serious yippers here, then I have a couple females and a male that rarely bark, and seem to pass it on to their puppies too. Yorkies overall tend to be yippy, unfortunate but true! Consistent saying "NO" and a loud clap during inappropriate barking times seems to help if you happen to get a yipper. |

| I have a barker too. Besides from noises near the door, he will bark at some random people as we walk, though not at everyone. It's tough for me to try to figure out who/what he will bark at. Thankfully my neighbors are great (knock on wood) but I would try put yours in obedience class if possible, I regret not putting mine in one younger. He's 2 now, better late than never right

YT Addict | Mine is becoming a loud whiner when my husband leaves. I know it's not really barking, but it's so annoying! He scratches and paws at the door, whines, and yelps. Is this favoritism? My husband is with him a lot more, but I love my Derby too Do any of you experience this? |

| Desperate! Has anyone tried a bark collar? I tell Starr "no barking" from the time I pick her up in the kitchen to the time I set her down outside, and the minute her feet hit the ground, she's barking. I can't tell you how aggravating it is. I don't want her to become a nuisance to the neighbors. |

| Brooklynn whines when my husband leaves in the morning, and I say "Brooklynn Quiet" once or twice and she goes back to sleep. If she is in quiet time and is hungry, that is the only time she barks. Then I make her Sit before she jumps into her food. I am not a fan on constant barking, so we are working on this in our house too.
