My Zhoie didn't come home until 12 wks, she is now 9 mos and I think she already had her behavior pattern pretty well down. She is a laid back little girlie, but from past experience with other dogs, we learned not to encourage barking, i.e.....never have them speak for something..like food. If she barks to just get your attention, don't acknowledge her/him, turn your back. This only takes a minute and then you can go on as usual. This hasn't stopped her from letting me know if something is out of the oridinary or there is a strange sound, but all in all, she is not a yapper.
Oh yeah, like if someone comes to the door, don't say, who's that, who's that etc. I feel those things is what encourages barking. Hope, this helps, it's only my personal experience, she's my 1st yorkie and learning as I go for sure. Good Luck, you will love it, they really take your heart!!
