My experience with yorkies is, they generally only bark alot with company, or if they have access to a big window to view lots of things to bark at. Loud noises did to do it too. If you are going to cinfne your yorkie during the day I would recommend more then a crate, seems the more room they have the less barking, cause they can get quite bored.
Bloodlines help, I have some serious yippers here, then I have a couple females and a male that rarely bark, and seem to pass it on to their puppies too.
Yorkies overall tend to be yippy, unfortunate but true! Consistent saying "NO" and a loud clap during inappropriate barking times seems to help if you happen to get a yipper.
