| So disappointed in myself! :( I think I made Trixie have an accident this morning and I know it was MY fault! I was doing the dishes and didn't even think about looking at her little signs and all she was giving me. She was laying by the door in the kitchen with me (the one we always take her out of) and I just completely ignored the fact that she may had to go out-I just took it to be that she wanted to be in there with me, ya knwo? So she goes to poop in our living room on the rug and prances over to me to let me know. I felt SO bad.. I didn't know what to do, so I immediately took her to her crate and then went to clean it up... was this the right thing to do? I mean, I couldn't actually punish her and tell her no as she had already done it... Does this mean we have to start back at square one on the crate training? She has been doing SO good the past week that she has stayed out of the crate when I can keep watch on her the whole time and no accidents til today...

| Don't beat yourself up! None of us aren't guilty of making mistakes or misjudgements with our babies. We have caused similar accidents with Toto and on those occasions we neither scold nor treat. We just do as you did and take their attention elsewhere while keeping an extra eye out for the successes. We just try to make a bigger deal of the next success .... praise and a treat and simply go on! Sounds like you are doing an excellent job with Trixie's training! Keep up the good work!

| Thanks... But does this mean we need tos tart back at square 1 for the crate training.. like where she is in her crate til its time for her to potty, then she does her business, gets rewarded and prasied, treats and free time, and then goes back in for some time and repeat?

| I wouldn't think you would need to go back to square one. They are allowed an accident or two ... but, if this is a pattern she is beginning to repeat, then I would think you should consider going back to the crate. I would just watch her for a day and if she continues to go to the kitchen door when she needs to "go", I would say you are well on your way to great success with potty training! Let us know how she does the rest of the day. Good luck!

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I agree - we've all been there and been distracted or whatever...I think you should just do what you're normally doing - accidents happen and just go about your training and see how she does...I never crate trained so I am NO help but you sound like you're doing great and how cute she came to get you to let you know ...I wouldn't worry ! |

| I totally agree with Bettyeanne! I think you are doing wonderfully! One accident is not bad at all especially since it was not her fault. She is communicating with you....it just takes time to understand the signals. Congratulations on the training and she sounds to me like she is still beyond the need to crate train imo. Good job! |

| Like the other ladies have said, don't beat ourself up. If that is the only time you make a mistake and don't get to the door to let her out in time, I will be very surprised! It happens here all the time! (Well, not ALL the time, but often enough!) Can't blame the pup. Not her fault. Bad mommy!! But, on the other hand, don't blame yourself too much either. And she was trying to get as close as she could to the door to get out, so you must be doing something right. At least she knows where "out" is!! And they are really smart, one slip up will not undo all the trainig that has come before. |

| Your compassion towards Trixie is so sweet. Please don't punish yourself too much. It sounds like you did the right thing by placing her in the crate then cleaning up the mess. (I've heard to never clean up their potty mistake when they can see you?? I have no idea if this is true or not??) I have yet to find a Yorkie who never made a potty mistake.

| Hi Trixie~Belle... Don't be so hard on yourself. I agree with everyone else and have had the same feelings as you have now. If Maddie has an accident because I'm not paying enough attention to her "signs", I just clean it up and go on like nothing happened. She's little and still learning. If she walks right in front of me and goes (trying to push her limits) - then it's a different story. Keep up the good work you have been doing!!
