| ![]() But truly in reality there are very few "standard" colored Yorkies. Winston is 100% Yorkie...but is he the standard...I think not.

| ![]() Can anybody tell me about the black and tan Yorkies. I groomed a couple a few years ago. They were over 2 years old. I see on the AKC the color for Black and Tan and Blue and Tan. When I do my reading it talks about how the black will turn blue and so forth. So what happen to the Black and tan people ask me and I don't quite understand what happen either?

The past is just that, the past. The standard for the Yorkie is what it is. So if breeders are breeding for non-standard dogs,(color, structure, size, temperment, conformation, etc) doesnt that make them indescriminate, unethical breeders? And if the Yorkie standard should be changed, why not all of the breeds. Lets just breed willy nilly. Lets not have any "breeds". Everyone could have mutts and all could be equal on the playing field.

Donating YT 7000 Club Member | ![]() I do not have a problem with it. Like people, yorkies come in all different colors, shapes, and sizes. How BORING would it be if they all looked exactly the same? I fell in love with my yorkie for his personality, not his looks. My favorite thing about the yorkie breed is the incredible variety - every yorkie is different! It makes me SO sad that people are so judgemental even towards DOGS, who never judge anyone in their whole lives! I don't think they should be sold as special or rare or should be bred purposely in hopes of making a quick buck...but I don't "dissaprove" of them. To put it sinply, I don't care if they're blue and gold, brown and black, golden, red, chocolate, green, purple, or orange with pink polka dots - I love ALL yorkies!

| ![]() So would you say that you are a stickler for the rules of YTCA?? I only ask this because blue and gold is also not the standard set forth by them ....blue and tan is. |

I believe that breeders should breed as close to the standard as possible...start off with a good stock and improve from there. I do not believe in breeding for the "special" or "off" colors.

| ![]() My point was....this same discussion was carried on when breeders were breeding to downsize the 20+ pounders of yesteryear to the wonderful "little" guys we love so much today. After all, they didn't just pop out one day as puppies that would grow to 7 pound, blue and tan adults. Who knows, maybe the tris, etc are on their way to becoming a whole other class of Yorkie? Just a thought.. |

![]() ![]() ![]() I agree with this, I think we should enjoy all the offspring, but we are talking about breeding, and I too believe breeders should breed as close to standard as possible.

| ![]() I like to see all colors but sticking to the breed standards for breeding purposes is probably best

The problem is, that some of our yorkies lack the gene that will turn their coats grey and they will always have black coats - that is not an acceptable adult color (according to the YTCA's standards). Black coated yorkies are used in reputable breeding programs to improve/enhance the coat color in thier show potential pups. I love all colors but I'm just trying to make a point that there seems to be double standards with regards to some off colors being (more) accepted and some off colors not being accepted.
