AKC lists black and tan and black and gold on their applications because yorkie puppies are born those colors. It is acceptable for young yorkies to be black and tan but their coat should turn blue as an adult.
The problem is, that some of our yorkies lack the gene that will turn their coats grey and they will always have black coats - that is not an acceptable adult color (according to the YTCA's standards).
Black coated yorkies are used in reputable breeding programs to improve/enhance the coat color in thier show potential pups. I love all colors but I'm just trying to make a point that there seems to be double standards with regards to some off colors being (more) accepted and some off colors not being accepted.
