And, while I hope I NEVER have to make that decision, and I'm sure I'll be criticized for this, so here we go...but I wouldn't choose either over the other...call me CRAZY but again my dogs ARE my children, and I WOULD NOT choose my human child over my fur child, or visaversa. I just wouldn't. There are allergy remedies, medicine, etc. now...we are living in 2007...and I KNOW of several people who have dog or cat allergies who are able to have them simply by taking a pill or liquid everyday. Yeah, yeah, go on with the rude comments, I know they're coming. But I WOULD NOT choose, it just wouldn't be an option...

Now, that being said, I also feel that it's, again, a PERSONAL choice whether you rehome your dogs or not. I AM NOT saying that EVERYONE who has a child who's allergic should not rehome their dog(s), I would NEVER say that. It is UP to the individual, not all of you.

And, last thing, I think. What a breeder chooses to do with his/her dogs, WHERE they choose to place them is THEIR decision, and I DO NOT believe that's negotiable. They are the ones who spent countless time and money on bettering their dogs, and they should have EVERY right in the WORLD to decide who their dogs go to. And if you don't like their policy, GET A DOG FROM SOMEONE ELSE! There are PLENTY of dog breeders, good and bad, show and pet quality, who will sell their dogs to someone recently married or with children. There is no reason to argue about that, NOT ONE. It's the breeders business. They raised them, they are the ONLY ones who have a valid point about where they should and will go.

I dealt with severe allergies/asthma to cats as a child and my quality of life was so poor. My mom refused to rehome the cats even as I was in the ER nightly. No amount of medications worked for me and I've developed such bad asthma as an adult because of my mothers choice to not rehome and spent many years as a child unable to do anything because I was so ill.

I'm just saying a medication doesn't *always* work, unfortunately.

I do agree w/everyone being able to have their own opinions. The world would be a boring place if we all agreed.

All I meant was if it's a child that is involved, I no longer think it's a personal choice if their life is suffering. It's actually a form of child abuse.

i can agree with the child abuse if the medications are tried, they don't work, and the kids continue to suffer. but i dont think it is abuse if you know the child has allergies and you are trying different treatments...and find one that works.

i know if trinity had allergies to our dogs, i would try different treatments. rehoming my animals would be a VERY last resort...and i would hope to never be in a situation like that.

the way i look at it with kids/pets...and i may get a hammering for saying this. but it's not that we love the kids more than the pets...or the pets more than the kids...but when we are faced with a situation where the kids simply CANNOT be with the pets...there are only so many options... and re-homing the pet is one of those options. bottom line.

and if re-homing a pet because the lifestyle that you are currently offering the pet is not good (for whatever reason...health, money, time, whatever...) you have to do what is right and fair by the pet. there are WONDERFUL people out there looking for a pet to love. a lot of people would prefer to adopt a pet that is a little older...vs. a small puppy. and if you rehoming the pet is in the very best interest of the pet...and they are going into a home like that where their quality of life is increased tremendously, I do not see why anyone should be made to feel bad about that.

you think it is so wrong to re-home a dog. to "hurt" a dog like that. well, what do you think your remarks are doing to the "people" you are saying them to? is it ok to hurt a human....a person whom you spend time with on this forum....but God forbid you do something to make the pet sad. even tho you don't know the first thing about the pet's situation...or wether or not it will be better off in it's new home. i just dont see how you can be so nasty. I don't see how you think doing something "wrong" in your eyes, is made right by doing something so mean. some of the things said to people having to re-home is just down right MEAN.

what good comes of being ugly like that???

I agree that we all have opinions and until we walk in another's shoes we should not judge but to say your child would not come before your dog is truly beyond me. Rehoming in most cases I feel would be better for the dog than staying with an owner that wants to rehome the dog plus better for the person looking for a dog to love.

I'm sorry to hear this happened to your friend. I know what she is going through, as we had to take Jack back to the breeders. My post was nothing but kind words so thank you to those who were so kind to me and thank you to those that chose not to say anything if they didn't agree. I think people often times get caught up in the heat of the moment and don't think what they say/type. Personally, I wouldn't waste my time or energy getting upset at someone who you don't even really know and probably never will meet. Life is just way to short to sit around and think of drama.
