| ![]() Finally, a topic I've had experience in! These little imps are smart. Lexi is 7 months old now and she's finally getting the idea but it did take 5 months to get to this point. I made it a habit, early on, to pen her in the kitchen at her normal 'go' times. She hates to be crated during the day but is perfectly alright with it at night so long as the crate is in my bedroom. She had the paper idea right away but was only successful about 75% of the time. Now, suddenly, she get's it right 99% of the time. She'll get up out of our laps from a dead sleep and go on her pad and then come back to take her position back up. Now, why do I say 99% of the time? Because she's suddenly developed a new habit. She get's so excited whenever someone enters the house that she has little accidents. She goes, literaly, while running and hopping. I'm guessing that this too will pass. Then there are the 'spiteful' accidents. The ones that happen outside the bathroom door when she is not allow entry. I suspect this is what your little fellow does. I have to forgive her though, she's so sweet natured. I'm picking her up from the vets shortly. She was spayed yesterday but has been at the vets since Monday night. I don't remember being this anxious when my daughter was small but these were the 2 longest nights ever!!! I'm sure it will all staighten itself out with patience, love and perserverence. Much luck to you! |

| ![]() I tried Mia in the crate when we first got her - whining, crying scratching at the crate, needing out to potty. Put her in bed with us and she sleeps all night most of the time, made herself a little 'nest' just above my pillow of her blankie and the pillow that is stuffed in between the mattress & headboard so she doesn't fall through. When she needs to potty she walks to the corner of the bed closest to the door and sits on my hubby's feet until he wakes up, wakes me up and I take her out. She doesn't make a sound. It's pretty funny. Good luck. |

| ![]() yeah....... im thinking about putting toby's food and water in his crate, so he HAS to go in there.... and moving the crate to my bedroom with the door open so he can move in and out as he pleases.... This would also be incentive to keep my room clean ![]() ![]() ![]() |

| ![]() For the paper training we started out with a large surface area and covered it all with newspaper. When Ranger went on the paper we praised him and gave a treat, but if he went elsewhere we didn't even acknowledge it. When he got the hang of it we decreased the size of the paper coverage and when he was routinely only going on the papers we'd make it smaller again. We kept doing this until there was only one paper left. Not too long after we went through all that training he wanted to only go outside so there is no longer a paper in the house.

| ![]() Update: i dont really care if he sleeps with us at night or not, i just wanted him to get used to the crate in the day time because i dont want him making a mess of the house...... and...... lo and behold, he actually stopped sleeping with us because he PREFERS the crate ![]() ![]() He was around a child for the first time yesterday (the child is six, and i laid down the rules: no picking up, no holding, if he walks away DO NOT persist..ect) anyways, i was worried about TOBY getting hurt or scared by the kid....... but it was THE OTHER WAY AROUND, the kid was SCARED OF TOBY ![]() |

| ![]() It's hard to train a puppy that's that young...I got Archie at 5 months and we trained him to go outside, praised him when he went, but didn't scold him if he went inside. When we caught him in the act inside, I took him straight to a wee wee pad. Now, he goes outside all the time, but on the wee wee pad in the middle of the night or if he has an emergency. The funny thing is that he started going into the bathroom for emergencies because I guess he figured that's where everyone else goes. We moved the wee wee pad in there and he's good about it but hardly uses them since he goes outside for the most part. The funny thing is that the other day, I caught him going against the toilet bowl!!! He must have seen my boyfriend peeing with the door open or something...The only thing I had a problem with training him to go outside was that in the beginning, he would look out the window and start to go because I guess he figured he was outside. He's 7 months old now and it keeps getting easier and easier. He has learned to atleast try everytime he goes out. But it does require a LOT of patience....good luck!! |

| ![]() I got Lilli when she was 6 weeks and that was the best time to puppy pad train her because she slept all the time what I did was put the puppy pad right in front of her bed so when she woke up I would put her on the pad and she would go on it I never did have a problem with her now that she is older her big thing is going outside and she did that on her own she will go at the top of the stairs to let me know its time now Lexie on the other hand she is 4 months and when I brought her home it was awful she would go everywhere what I would do with her is keep my eye on her and when I thought she was getting ready I would hurry and put her on the pad the best place for the pad is right beside the food bowls now she still makes accidents but she gets into trouble now and I make her go to her bed for awhile. So I hope that helps a little . Kristi |

| ![]() You are not alone, not only does my puppy go around the pad, she goes to the other side of the room. I've tried praising her with treats and everything. She will not use it unless i catch her and put her on the pad. I was told the pads had a particular scent that was supposed to atrract the puppy. i guess "Koko" is not attracted to that particular scent.. LOL.

| ![]() Stewie was going on the pads very nicely for a while and he stopped abruptly last week. I don't understand. I, therefore, have no room to give advice about housetraining ![]()

| Goldcupmom--- How funny!!! My Luigi does the same thing!!! He started out in the crate at night, he didn't seem to mind it til he had to potty!!! Then he just whined and whined til we woke up. So eventually we let himsleep with us in bed. He has his own pillow and he sleeps all night long. If he has to go in the middle of the night, he licks my face to wake me up!!!! Or sometimes I wake up and he's sitting on the edge of the bed staring at the door!! So cute!!! But he never makes a sound either!!! Quincybpy-- We also live in Ohio and yes its very cold!! So we wanted to puppy pad train but wasn't happening!! So we took him outside in the freezing cold!!! But Luigi actually likes the cold. And the snow. It tokk us bout 2 weeks to train hin to go outside and gave him lots and lots of love and praise when he did go outside!!! Now he's almost 6 monthes old and has only had 2 accidents in the last 6 weeks!!! ![]() Its so funny how different all our little babies are!!!! Some of them love going outside and hate using the weewee pads and then you have those who hate outside and like to use the weewee pads!!! So if you find something that works for you and your baby just go with it. If it doesn't seem to be working after giving it some time, then try another method!!! But no matter what method you decide, Consistancy is the key!!! Keep with the same schedule. Repitition, repitition, repititon!!! |
