| How many pads? Just curious...for those who pad train their furbabies, how many pads do you have down at once for your pups? Hubs says I have too many options for Teddy and that he gets confused and that's why he has accidents. He just had his neuter the other day, so he is confined to the kitchen and dining room during the day and the bathroom at night. Both places have pads for him, but I usually have another spot in the living room too. Also, we were letting Teddy sleep with us at night, but I started to notice spots on my bedroom carpet. He has a pad in our bathroom, but I'm wondering...is it maybe too dark for him to see at night so instead he climbs down and just goes on the carpet? Just trying to figure things out.

| I just keep one pad down and always in the same place in an extra bedroom. (I call it Heidi's room - has her kennel, puppy pad & all her stuff... and of course pics of her on the wall!) If I had a large house I'd probably put one per floor, depending on your house size & layout. I'd try to always take them to the same pad though, especially until they truly know that that's where they are to go and do it consistently. At night I leave a little nite light so she can see to get down the bed stairs and another nite light in the room with her pad.

| This may be wrong, but I allow my yorkie to sleep beside the bed on her bed. I turn all the lights off except the bathroom light, her pad is in there and she uses it. I also have one in the bedroom where it's dark closer to her, but she passes it up and goes to the light. Now another thing that may be wrong, I keep down pads everywhere so if she's in another room with me she has the option to pee. My house is big, and for her to get back to her original pad would be a long travel. Puppies usually go as soon as it hits them. If she's ever found a corner and went, I have a pad there as well. Some little nestled quiet dark corners they are prone to, so I feel like having that pad there still reminds her to go only on a pad. This training may be wrong to dog trainers, but for her she only goes on a pad, but yes; I probably have 15 throughout my house. I have a large 5 bedroom home and I'm all over the place all day in it, and she's my little shadow, this is why I do so many pads. |

| I would love to hear some more opinions. I have a very small house and I have a pee pad in every room that the puppies will be in. Maybe I should just have one and carry it from room to room ? My adult dogs are all outside trained. I tried to teach Gracie to use a pee pad but she only uses it if she is gated in the bathroom and I am not home. I wanted to pee pad train the puppies so they had both options. Thanks |

| I have a decent size 2 bdrm. apt. but it's large by no means. Princess has access everywhere except dd's bedroom. She will only go in a private setting so her pad & holder are in the bathroom. There is a tiny night light in there at all times. I tried to move a pad into my room as well for when someone is in the restroom but she wont use it. She'll also pee outside if we're out there but primarily uses one pad in the house. I would like to add that Princess had a slight 'relapse' on training after her spay & I read that was common. I wonder if the same could be said when neutered?

| I only have one pad down, and,I keep it in the same spot,he has done very well with it,one time when it was thundering and lighting out,he got scared, and went in the bathroom and peed on the rug.Other then that though,Max has done great!I,personally, would have to agree with your husband, regardless of what other people say,I believe,if I limit his pee options to one pad, that he will do better,so far he has.....Just my 2 cents,Good Luck!

| Thanks everyone! I'm hoping he gets better since it's been a week since his surgery. He did well for 4 days but today he went in the family room while we were all in there and my boys bathroom on the rug when we were upstairs. We really limit where he has access to, but I'm really getting frustrated. I feel like I will never be able to trust him.

| Now that my 4 girls are 2 and 3 years old, I only have one pad down, near the back door which is where they would go thru to go outside. At night I put one in my bathroom as Karlee can't make it thru the night. When they were babies, I had a lot more down, my house is a big 2 story.

| We live in a tiny apt. Granted, Kaji was pad trained at around 18 months, so he was able to hold for a while. I keep one pad down, in one location only. His pad is in the bathroom. It's even taped half up on the wall for him to lift his leg. It helps keep him clean, and he prefers to lift his leg. He has 0 accidents, so I don't mind taping his pad up 3 times a day. He even goes from the bedroom to the bathroom in the middle of the night if he needs to. I dont leave any lights on for him.

| I would go with using as few pads as possible. Depends on the size of the pup and the size of your home. The pup needs easy access to the pad, but that doesn't mean one in every corner. Judging from what I have read here of various experiences, too many pads does create confusion and training problems. I have one on the first floor of the house, and one on the second floor because my boys aren't allowed to go near the stairs.

| I had the same problem. I had a pad down in the bedroom and one in the kitchen. He peed all over every place of my carpet and i'm not sure why. So now he only has a pad in the kitchen. It stinks for him because now he has to go all the way down stairs and to the kitchen to do his duties, BUT he does them! It's easier cleaning off the tile then carpet... Quote:

| Why don't you try to crate train?? I have several dogs with no problems. Just wondering. |

| Not everyone agrees with crate training. It's easy to say, "walk your dog down to the grass and have it do it's business there." or to crate them until they need to go, but if you live on the 20th floor of an apt building, you'll never make it in time. Everyone's situation is different. If crate training worked for you, that's awesome. Taking my little one out when he needs to go requires we get in the car, and an extra 10 mins of him holding it. I'd rather him be able to relieve himself when he needs to.

| I have THREE and they usually go outside, but I do keep pee pads down when we are not there, just in case.... & I keep 3 down. One by the back door, one by the door to the garage, and one in a place that seems to be their favorite.... near the hallway (must be a privacy issue ). They don't always get used, but sometimes Seeger just can't wait for me to get in the door and he will use it just as I walk in... the little stinker!
