YT Addict | On the bed from day one!?!?! I've heard sooo many people say that their Yorkie's have slept with them from day one. When I get my Yorkie I would love her to sleep with me every night, even from the beginning. I guess you could say I am a light sleeper, but sometimes I get a little more in the medium sleeper side. I am not even close to being afraid of rolling her over because I don't move a lot and even if I feel the corner of the blanket under me I wake up. The thing that does really worry me is her peeing on the bed I would be so afraid of waking up in the morning and there was a pee spot. I don't sleep for ever long either I go to bed at 9:45, and wake up at 5:45-6:00 (I have school, trust me I don't choose to wake that early!!) The only thing I could think to do is not giving her water about an hour before bed, and taking her out right before I go to sleep. What else could i do to make sure she doesn't pee in the bed??? Also, did you sleep with your baby from day one, and how did you, (I've heard if people putting a crate in bed) |

| They don't pee/poop where they feel like their den area is. If you can do that with your bed you're golden. Bandit always slept in his crate but came from really bad BYB and still had accidents in his crate constantly. However when he was 1 he was allowed to sleep with us occasionally and never once had an accident in the bed. Nala who has never had a single accident in her crate has been allowed to sleep with us occasionally too but has had a few accidents in our bed. The problem with a young yorkie is they probably won't be able to hold it reliably for 8-9 hours through the night without a break. You might want to consider crate training him/her and then when he's a few months old and doing well with potty training and able to make it through the night move him to your bed. You don't wont to be in the position where he's used to being in your bed every night but having constant accidents so you have to crate him but he refuses to sleep in a crate. Good luck and congratulations on your future yorkie |

| When Zeke was little I had pillows placed in a semi-circle with me across the opening so that he would not fall out of bed. When ever he would stir during the night I would take him to the kitchen and put him on his potty papers. After he peed, it was back to bed. He has never gone on the bed or fallen out of bed. Now he is 2 and big enough to get on and off the bed by himself, but he still gets up during the night and wants out to go potty. I free feed so it is probably my fault that he gets up during the night because he always has access to his food and water. If his bowls get empty, he lets me know about it. |

| I've always taken mine to bed from the beginning. You should be warned that they can't go all night as puppies. You must be prepared to get up in the middle of the night for a good while until they can hold it that long. Their bladders are very small. If you can't be sure to get up in the middle of the night with them, then I would recommend you make other arrangements until your yorkie can go all night.

| This might sound weird but I actually put Jackson's crate ON my bed. It was the only way he'd sleep but I wanted to be sure he was not going to potty on the bed or get in trouble, etc, so we did that for maybe a month. Then I let him sleep on my bed one night and he slept thru the entire night... ever since, he's been in my bed!

| Dante was 13 weeks old when we got him... and he's slept with us from the first night... no accidents on the bed, none at all (plenty other places... just none on the bed). When he gets up and walks over me to get to the edge of the bed, I get up and take him out to pee. But that only happens about once every 2-3 weeks. Otherwise, if I take him to pee before bed, he goes all night. You just have to be a light enough sleeper that you KNOW when a 3-5 pound dog walks across you... |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I had my Gracie on my bed from day one as she wouldn't settle down any where else. I am a super light sleeper. The first night, after letting her cry for a while I put her on my bed and she curled up on the middle of my pillow and fell sound asleep. I woke up during the night and let her out. She never even tried to get off the bed. With Cali she loved sleeping in her playpen next to my bed. But would wake up during the night so I would put her in a little crate next to me in bed and she would go back to sleep until morning. With Roxie, I had her in a crate until she was use to getting off the bed during the night to use the pee pads. With all of mine I teach them the first day to use the ramp to go up and down the bed.

| Milli has slept with us from day one as well. Our greatest concern, at first, was that she would fall off the bed when she was to tiny. To remedy that, we put her between us. She did fall off the bed once and had to be rushed to the emergency room but nothing was broken. Just a sprained leg. As far as peeing goes, in the early months, I had a small 'fence' around a puppy pad on my side of the bed. When Milli would stir in the night, I'd just roll over and put her down on the floor on her fenced puppy pad. She'd pee and then ask to be picked back up. I'd roll over, put her back in between us and go back to sleep. Never any need to get out of bed or really even wake up completely. Once she got big enough to jump off the bed on her own, we just left the pee pad on my side of the room. Sometime she hits it...other times she misses! LOL When Milli was tiny, I worried about her alot. But she's a tough little thing. Now, she jumps on and off the bed easily. We made a ramp for her at the foot of the bed but she mostly uses it during games of chase with her doggie sister when she launches off it! I know that some here have rather fragile yorkies but we've found that Milli is a tough little cookie...so I don't worry about her quite as much now. Just some encouragement that you won't always have to be quite so careful as when you bring your little one home! |

| My two older ones slept with us from day one also. Then since we were getting a third, we got them off the bed! They cried like babies for about 3 nights, then they settled in and accepted their own bed in our room. Then I missed them in bed. So I invited them back. By then, we got the third and he cried. So we let him in bed. He is a deep sleeper and he sleeps in between our pillows up at the top of the bed. I can't remember when I got a good night's sleep...I wish I could get them off again but I'm damned if I do and damned if I dont. It's so hard. I want them in bed but I don't.

| Mine have always slept in my bed from day one. I have crate trained them as well but I just don't like it, I like snuggling with them, lol. What I do is put a diaper on them so I don't have to worry about any accidents. Once the diaper starts staying dry I know that I can then trust them on my bed with no accidents. It works great as it tells you when they are capable of holding it all night long. I also have steps going up to my bed. When they are older I teach them how to use the steps. At the bottom of the steps I keep a pad there for them for the few days I sleep in. So when they can't hold it any longer they use the steps to go to the pad and then come right back up after they are done. It all equals no accidents on my bed.

| Steps are a must. I have steps by every bed, then they can play musical beds!

| I tried crate training Roxy when I first got her (she was 9 weeks old) but after 4 nights of her crying ALL night, I put her in bed with me. She's amost 6 months now and has only had 1 accident in bed. I think it was because she wasn't feeling well but regardless she has done extremely well! I couldn't imagine not having her sleep with me now!

| Well...the first night we had Freddy he slept on the carpet in our bedroom. We didn't have a crate and put his bed on the floor next to our bed but he preferred to sleep on the carpet. He slept through the night without going anywhere on the carpet. I was really surprised because he was only 12 weeks old and i read that puppies can't hold it through the night. Well...we did put him in a crate at night after that just because we didn't trust him...until he had bad diarrhea and needed to go every two hours...i was sooo tired that night and decided to just let him sleep on the bed with me ( also my husband was not home that night ) Ever since that night he cries every time we put him in his crate..we let him sleep in our bed last weekend and he slept through the night without going. He likes the bed so much that he doesn't even want to get up when we get up in the morning...so my hubby and i are undecided on what to do...i would like to let him sleep in his bed in our bedroom but i am afraid that he will wake up at night and go somewhere on the carpet while we are sleeping. If he is in bed with us i feel him getting up and cry because he can't jump off the bed ( that was the case when he was sick)...so i could take him out. But my husband doesn't want Freddy to think that our bed is also his bed! wow what a long reply... |
