Yes, I purchased the one from Amazon that you posted a link to. I am not holding the button down for long, I am holding it for probably 3 seconds, saying "no bark." When I pushed the button both of my boys' ears' perked up, they stopped barking, and they jumped back a bit. But then, a few seconds later, Jimi (my oldest) started growling and barking once again. So then I pushed the button again, said "no bark," and then the same thing kept repeating again. But I was hesitant to keep using it repeatedly, because I don't want him to just become accustomed to the noise and ignore it, just like the can of coins. It seems like he is aggressive towards the sound, and he is just acting tough by barking and growling at it.

I'm just guessing here, but I would guess 3 seconds would be too long. If you mean like one one thousand, two one thousand, three one thousand.

Alright, thanks for the advice, Nancy.
Next time I will just press it down for a second and see if that works.

Ahh.. I never had a problem with barking until I got a second dog..

Like I said, I'm only guessing, I've studied learning theory, but know very little about specific applications. I do know that if a stimulus is too aversive, instead of just interrupting the response, it can provoke an exaggerated response. Lol, this happens all the time on Yorkitalk, if you are too aversive in your reply to someone, they become really angry instead of opening their minds to learning.

I'll let you know, I was planning on taking him to Home Depot, where he could see lots of men in work boots.

I am sure I probably cannot return it, as it is an electronic device and I am not able to repackage it, but I am not too concerned. It was only $10, and I am still optimistic- I haven't given up yet! It may work when I try it later.

You may be right, but I also was thinking about using it as a protector, when we go for walks. It says that it could keep a large dog from attacking, and if you are correct that it has no affect on some dogs, than it wouldn't be much of a protector either.

That is a good point, I was thinking about taking it with me on walks for the same reason. I wonder if it would work for other animals, like coyotes and such? Let's hope I never have to find out...

Yes, he goes nuts when the cable guy is here, I kind of go nuts when the cable guy comes here too. We've had about a hundred cable guys try to fix the problem, and they all say the same thing, "The last cable guy you had here, did it all wrong."

While it may work, I sure wouldn't depend on it for protection. Pepper spray would be better, or my daughter got a metal protection stick thing (very sturdy and extention pops out) which is essential in her area where many big dogs roam off leash.

Thanks for the tip, dogs run off leash here too, even though it's not allowed. The owners always say their dogs are friendly, and I'm sure if a fight started, Joey would have provoked it, but still . . .

I should make a video of how well the bark repeller works in my home. When friends come over, my 5 furkids go into loud meet & greet which I only allow for about 30 seconds (enough hello), then I beep the bark repeller while calmly saying "quiet"...sometimes have to do it twice, and instantly 4 dogs are silent. Only my deaf old schnauzer continues to bark cause he can't hear it.

Friends, pool man, repairmen, are all completely shocked at my remote control dogs, hehe. And, for only $10, it is amazing.

Good information, I like the fact that you do allow some barking because I do believe that a dog should be allowed to bark, but enough is enough!
