Nope..I've had mine for a month and still not potty trained. I put out new peepee pads and have to tape them to the floor...they still find a way to rip them to shreds.

Hi everyone - I am also a first time mom of a small furbaby. My last was a Great Dane - so this is quite an experience. I did do a lot of reading before I got Bridget, so this potty thing is something I expected. After the first week Bridget was peeing on the pee pads if I sat with her, and now she will go on her own. Which thrills me to no end. The poo thing - well she has had one accident...I'm sure it was an accident because she actually used the pad.... I have tried everything - at least I think I have. Last night when I had her on the pad she was so bored she fell asleep sitting up. It reminded me of potty training my kids.
Anyway - I just want to thank everyone who takes the time to post for newbies like me to read - sometimes I get so frustrated and start to think that it's me - but it sure helps to see that there are others out there in the same position.
Thanks so much for all the hints and tips - I'm so glad to be here!

My toy poodle was completely trained at 14 weeks old. I got her when she was 10 weeks, she was the fastest dog I had ever trained. Tucker was trained at 7/8 months old, however if you dont pay close attention to him when he goes to the door, he will have an accident where you last walked, thats his way of saying... "I told you so".

I train to the outside, and I can say with confidence...the key is to take them out a LOT. My Zoey wasn't fully housebroken when I got her at just a couple weeks past a year old, last March. I took her out probably once an hour (during the day) for the first couple of weeks we had her. She's been perfect.

I think the key is to never give them the opportunity to screw up...and tons of praise and hallelujahs every time they do the tiniest squirt. I don't do treats for this...just figurative handstands and cartwheels, lol.

I agree with this post 100 percent. Consistency and praise is the key, once you fiind a method that is working, stick to it!! I had to take Tucker out (after switching from using peepads) every hour from 6 am untill 9/10 pm untill he was just about 7 months old. He was crated at night and didnt mess in his crate after the 3 month mark, I was however still taking him out occassionaly if he whined to go out. It finally clicked at about 7 months and he started to go to the door on his own, however like I said in my previous post I still need to stay on top of him with it. He needs to go about every 2 hours during the day, longer if he is crated but since Im home most of the time the only time he is in his crate is at night.
It does take awhile for some pups, but if you stay on them they will get it! good luck..

I have this book and have read it cover-to-cover twice. Unfortunately, my house-mates are not helpful when it comes to housetraining my pups. I work during the day and when I first attempted the schedule suggested in the book, I asked for help during the day vs keeping them confined. This went well for a couple of days, then on the third day the person in charge of puppy-sitting decided to nap all afternoon. Not only was there pee/poop on the floor, but also a new hole in the couch! Needless to say, I was NOT happy that day!! My dogs go outside for the most part... Only when they are left unsupervised (during the day while I am at work) they have accidents. I've tried to explain to them that the dogs will never stop going on the floor if they don't stick to the schedule. I may end up asking them to walk them at lunch and crate them until I get home; at least until they are both going outside 100% of the time.

I wish I'd never, ever, ever started using pee pads.

I have been frustrated about this for a while, and having 2 puppies (both 7 months old) makes this 2x as hard. I think Bella has it figured out, but Edward is a stubborn little boy!

I loved this book. It took longer than 7 days, but as others have said, pick a routine and stick with it. I can almost set my watch to her bowl movements lol. Syd uses her litter box in my bedroom at night and her puppy pad in the back room during the day. She just turned 8-months-old yesterday. I started using it with her when she was four-months-old. I recommend this book to anyone with a dog he/she is trying to house train.

Ok, we're not doing it completely by the book, and I don't want to jinks it....but, Saydee is doing much better using the pee pad. Thank God for snow days. But I have to go out of town for a funeral, so I'm hoping my DH will continue working with them while I'm gone.

Yay for Sadee!!!

Seriusly though, don't give up. I purchased the book to help my brother and ex-husband train their yorkies. Since I was recovering from surgery and wasn't able to do much during the day, I offered to work on potty training them. I started training them at the same time.

Now Grover did fantastic and I would say it took about ten days for him to be 100% trained. (And Yes, I used the books schedule.) I did the day shift, and my brother followed the schedule religiously at night. - It paid off.

Rosies on the other hand... well she is a year old and is probably only 75% trained. But I blame that on my ex. He is a restaurant manager and works late hours. As soon as he would get home he would let her out of her crate and put her in bed with him. And when he would get up in the morning... well, he is slow to wake up and think straight. So Rosie did not get put out for awhile. Can't blame the dog for that!!!

As for my little furbaby, Cricket is very tiny and it has been snowing a lot and in freezing temps since I got her. I tried to start her training outside, but she just looks at me with those great big brown eyes as if to say, "Mommie! How can you torture me so!" as she sits shivering. It makes my body ache just to watch her!

So I used the same crate schedule w/ Cricket, but am using the puppy pads. She is doing fantastic and after two weeks is 100% puppypad trained. But after reading all these posts... I am so nervous that she will not do well transitioning to outside when she warms up! YIKES!!!!

My yorkie, Chi-Chi, is approaching 4 months and she is doing really well on the wee-wee pads (or pee-pads), but she is having difficulty doing poo-poo on the pads. We're located in NYC and it's really cold right now, our vet recommends that she stays inside most of the time until she receives her last booster shot. The vet said we can take her out, but for a short period, that's a challenge because she isn't use to walking on the leash. We don't start obedience classes until March 7th, does someone have recommendations to get her to poo on the wee-wee pads? I've stayed as consistent as possible, she has had more accidents than successes. Please advise.

Thumbs up

I bought the book and read it before I bought Lucy. I have had her four days now and she has only had one accident. And that was within the first ten minutes of coming home for the first time. She's done sooo well. I'm so scared of jinxing it! *crosses fingers*

Good luck with your wee one! <3

After reading the book, I started with wee wee pads. She wouldn't use the litter box. I then placed the wee wee pads inside a litter box. She followed after getting use to the idea of using the pads.
