| Never Ending Barking... Ginger used to be the one who barked non-stop!.. but now .. it's both Cloey & Ginger!! I try my best to tell them not to bark... I don't want to do any shock collars, but i was wondering if this will work or if anyone has anything like this. http://www.petco.com/product_info.as...k+Control&ct3= |

| i don't know how to stop it! lol.. at first the barking was cute.. these high pitched cute barks.. but then after the first hour non-stop i was like omg! Cloey does it when she's bored i can tell.. but I play with her all the time, buy her new toys.. and she always plays with Oreo & Ginger.. but while she's playing she's barking.. and mind you this just started a few days ago... I do not want to get kicked out of my Boyfriends house because of the barking |

| Don't bother... Our Dempsey is a real barker! He's actually my husband's dog, and I swear from the other room it sounds like the two of them are talking. Bark bark Shut up bark quiet bark bark bark I said shut up... They go on and on! And just like a kid he waits until the phone rings and always has to have the last word!! LOL Not a mean bark. Just trying to communicate. We tried the sound type of collar, and it didn't stop him at all, but I swear the other dogs cringed! I felt like the wrong ones suffered!! I also bought one of those collars that gives a little zap when they bark. He didn't even flinch at the highest setting. I've also seen collars that spray a scented spray in their face when they bark, but at this point I've given up. (I'm sure my neighbors would gladly chip in for me to get one though!) He is a 35lb Sheltie, though, and way sturdier than these little guys. Just be glad their little barks aren't as loud as a big dog!!! Good luck!!

| Deyna, Miko used to be a real barker also, and nothing seemed to work for him. We tried spraying him with water, making noise with pennies in a jar, and nothing worked because he would just bark more. Well, we bought him a collar that sprays citronella when he barks, and he has stopped barking so much!!! It's so great...I highly recommend it because a shock collar hurts the dog and the high-pitch noise can be heard by other dogs. It's not fair to make the other dogs have to hear the noise when they're not doing anything wrong. The citronella is non-toxic and it doesn't make the dog suffer at all. The smell of citronella just kind of confuses them because it's not something they smell very often. We were almost forced to do something about his barking because he barked so much one time that he made himself really sick and he was coughing and couldn't breathe very well so he was snorting/honking for a couple of hours. It was really scary! We only put the collar on whenever we leave the house and whenever he's barking for absolutely no reason which he doesn't really do anymore. The collar has really trained him well!! Good luck, Yorkieluv |

| YOu know there are sometimes when I want a dog to bark and other times I don't. I have trained my dogs to "speak" on command so I can usually say "no Speak" when they are barking at an inappropriate time to getthem to stop, but I was wondering if the citronella collar only stops the unwanted barking when it is on or if it has an overall "chilling effect" so that it inhibits barking even when they are not wearing it? Hopefully yorkiagility will see this since I think she uses the citronella collar. |

| Dog pheromones seemed to help Scruffy a lot. They are available at Petco and Petsmart too. It looks like a plug in air freshener.

| Miko still barks when the collar is off, just not unnecessarily. He still lets us know when there's people at the door and he still barks when he plays...The collar is just a training aide because he used to bark all the time for no reason. We don't keep it on all the time..only when we're trying to deter him from barking. |

I love my citronella collar. Best tool I ever bought to stop my dogs from barking. If you use the collar correctly, the overall chilling effect last even if the collar is not on the dog. However, if it isn't used correctly then the dogs quickly realize not to bark when the collar is on and it is okay to bark when the collar is off.

But keep in mind there is a size limit to this collar. Can't but it on really tiny yorkies.

eensor - what about the plug in job? Never heard of that, but would be interested! Hallelujah!! There is hope!!! PS. I have the other collars in the closet if anyone wants them. As I recall they weren't cheap, so I hate to see them go to waste!!

Shelties are natural barkers. Have you tried the water bottle on your Sheltie? Does it work? If it does then the collar will work. However, if they are really stress out about a sound or a noise, then the bark collar will not work. I would suggest buying the one with the ON/OFF button. Better for training. You can leave the collar on your dog even when you don't want the collar to go off. I bought mine for about $100

| The only reason I bought my yorkie the citronella collar is not to keep him from barking altogether, it's just to keep him from barking whenever one of us walks out the door. It works for that purpose...My intent was not to train him to quit barking completely or to make him feel like he can't ever bark. Like I said, he barked so much one time because my husband was outside that he made himself sick, and I can't let that happen...Ever since we got the collar, he has improved significantly. |
