| Ever heard of a Yorkie not liking TOYS? I think I have one like that. I've had Tommy a little over 2 weeks now. He's about 6y/o rescue. We're learning and getting to know eachother everyday. My issue is though: Toys I have some squeakers and a rope/ball attach thingy. He won't play with either. I'd squeezed the squeaker before, he runs away and will come over and sniff it when I put it down. He is pretty skiddish when it comes to everything. What could be some toys to interest him - if any. I'm really not trying to buy a boxful of toys that he never uses. |

YT Addict | My roommate's dog doesn't play with toys. He got her at 2 years old and from what the previous owners said that it was an accidental litter and the puppies were kept in the barn away from the parents, and didn't have a lot of socialization. We assume this is why she won't play with toys, but she is now 6ish and has only recently started playing with toys - but it's still a very rare event. Sometimes I put treats inside the toys and that really seems to get her going.

| I think you should ask sugarmamma, her Sugar is a tiny and she gets scared of the squeaky toys. She is really good at puzzle toys though, where you hide food or treats in there and they have to find out how to get it out. Uni on the other hand loves squeakers, but is not food motivated so she has still yet to figure out the puzzle toys. It could also be that he's just still adjusting and he's not settled in yet.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | My Pixie rarely played with toys. I got her at 13 months and never cared much for them. Last night I found 3 of the soft refill eggs for a toy and for the first time Pixie was actively playing with them. It was a rare sight.

| My Lexi doesn't like toys and hasn't since I got her at 16 weeks. She just wants to play with you. She likes to watch the others play and play with them, but has no interest at all in any type of toys

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Baxter likes a water bottle to chew on and crunch, or a puzzle type toy, but he doesn't play with balls or "babies". Cooper is the exact opposite. Darcy adores squeaky toys, and she plays alone (the only one who does) |

| I, too, just got 2 six year old rescues. Brie won't touch a toy or a treat for anything. She as a breeder at a mill. So was Bridget, Bridget is acclimating a little quicker. She doesn't 'play' but she will let me put a toy with her and she'll kind of snuggle with it. She doesn't play with it. She also will finally take tiny bites of toast now along with the other girls. Brie still won't. They show signs of a total lack of socialization. I think it is just a case of patience and continuous trial and error. Eventually, while watching the others play and you trying, you'll hit on something that catches her interest. May take years.

| Try paper. Tabby loves toys, they're all hers. Even the kid's stuffed animals. But whip out a piece of paper... she goes NUTS. Rip rip rip!! I have to watch her, she shred mail and LOVES toilet paper. All except the paper goes under my bed along with the rest of her collection. |

| I think my Teddi never learned how to play with toys because her older sister never played with toys. Also, the few occasional times she has played with toys when other dogs were over they always took them from her so I think she just gave up. I have a HUGE basket but she rarely plays with any of them.

| I was also going to suggest a treat related toy. Kongs are great, especially when stuffed with PB! Good luck. |

Long story short, sometimes it just takes time for them to show their true selves. Not all dogs will know how to play with, or enjoy the same toys. Kaji doesn't understand the concept of tug, even though Missy tries all the time to play with him.

| I got my Mo when he was 3 yos. He did not play with toys at all and I had tons of them as I also had a 7 month old at the time (Mayzie). Today at 7 yos he is like a puppy with his toys. He loves them! It took a while but he doesn't act like or even look like the same dog. I have posted these on here before. The first 3 photos of Mo are when I first got him at 3 yos. He didn't do much except sit and look like a hollow little pup. The last photo is of him not to long ago @ 7. He not only acts like a puppy now, he looks like one too!

| Thanks everyone. Def. trying to allow him to continue to settle in here with me as much as possible. I like the idea of the thinking/puzzle toys. He LOVES treats!! I just would love for him to have something to do. I'm home most of the day, so all he does is lay around until I take him out for potty breaks. I'd like to see him a bit more active and stimulated. He just looks...so bored. |
