| Some dogs just aren't big fans. I do believe a dog can be trained to enjoy toys, or fetching though. It's just a matter of putting in time and training and having patience. Jackson would not play fetch for the first year of his life... now I have him diving in the pool after toys, Lol... so it's possible. He still won't play everywhere, i.e. he's not super motivated by most toys, and would rather sniff around in a big field than fetch a ball. But if you make it rewarding enough (if food motivated, use food), it can be done. With frisbee, I used treats in the beginning, and put him on a long line. I encouraged him to go get the frisbee, and it took a couple of times for him to leave me (since I had the food) but then he figured out what I wanted. Sometimes I had to give him a gentle tug on the leash to remind him to bring the frisbee BACK... but it's still a slow process, but he know loves playing and gets very excited when I bring out discs now, which he NEVER used to do. I was actually going to make a thread on this soon, as I'm really wanting to train him to catch a frisbee in the air.

| Okay this may be crazy but Tuffey loves toys but is afraid of the light a flash light makes. If I pick up a flash light and turn it on he runs. Also doesn't like clicking noises. He likes squeakers in the toys but hates clicking and the flash light. Strange. Tuffey's mom |

| My 3 Girls that I have now, all of which are rescue's, not a one of them play with toy's. Allie will pick one up and chew on them, but that's it. It really is sad. My Willow who was used as a breeder is very afraid of toy's. My Luci has no idea what a toy is for.

| Take comfort in knowing that a dog can be happy without toys, and I am sure your girls are happy being in your loving care. Our airedale, whom we adopted at age 6 when her owner died, was not into toys. She came from a very good situation, but toys were not part of her life. She was more into simple running and going for walks.

My Yorkie loves stuffed animal toys w/ squeakers or not and can identify which one is which when I ask him to bring me one. He hates all other toys and never fetches a ball. But he is 6 yrs old now and isn't interested much in his animals anymore. His squirrel still sleeps in his bed though. | |

| My 1 year old girl was part of a show breeders brood. I think she was treated really well but she just isnt into toys. Ive tried. She sniffs them for a second and then walks away. Give her a frozen filled kong treat and its empty in 5 minutes though. This little gal loves food... |

YT 2000 Club Member | Max doesn't like toys. We got him when he was 1 1/2 years and I don't think he played with anything but his furry friends. He only likes to nip at stuffed animals like they are real or something!
