| Long walks is a good way to start! He might be reluctant at first, but it might help him be more familiar with his surroundings. Plus, it'll help you two bond. Pretty much anything you do with him will help create mutual understanding and a loving bond.

| My best friend has an older puppymill rescue who had literally no idea how to play with toys until he met Levi and Levi showed him. Now Tater (her pup) will occasionally play with toys on his own, but he is usually more content curling up for a nap. If he loves treats, you could try a Kong-type toy and let him figure out how to get the treats!

| We have two rescues that are between 8-10 and we also foster. Most rescues were not properly cared for....prior to coming to the rescue, and if from a mill (like our two) then they never had toys, played outside or did anything apart from their cage. A bath was a water hose when the cages got smelly and they were left in it while it was hosed down. ![]() Sorry, back to the toy thing.....our little Zander came into the resuce back in October of 2009....he wouldn't touch any toys. About June-ish this year we did catch him playing with a toy by himself (he still won't go near the others with a toy). We did catch it on video-too cute.....and also find him now hoarding toys in his crate. He did run after a toy when I tossed it across the room with one of the other dogs, but then figured out that they were coming too and stopped. It has been just over a year and he continues to make progress. It takes a LONG TIME and A LOT of PATIENCE...with the wonderful little rescues....but it is so worth it.

| My Vinnie has never played with toys. The only toy he likes is a squeaky mouse that is intended for cats. Other than that, he pretty much turns his nose up at toys. Alex, on the other hand, is a toy demon. He loves all things that squeak, but especially his soccer balls and little furry squeaky birds. He has preferences for all types of toys. For example, while he loves all squeaky balls, he strongly prefers soccer squeaky balls. I have no idea why.

| My Perkins doesn't play that much with toys and never with another dog. I feel so bad for him. He does have a couple of squeaky toys that he will run after if I toss them but only for a couple of minutes. He much prefers to lay next to me and nap. Now that I am fostering a playful Pom he's not quite sure what to make of her always trying to get him to play tag. She seems to get frustrated and then goes after the newspaper. She has a ball shredding it and barking away. Perkins barks at her as if to say that she is not being very ladylike or proper. It's kinda cute but I still feel sad that he doesn't get the playing thing. |

| Like Capt_noonie said, I have a little girl who RUNS from toys She "belonged" to a 4 or 5 year old boy before she rescued me. The boys (5 in the family) must have tortured her something terrible ![]() Treat toys are all she will consider. I feed Sugar her dinner out of a treat ball - it's the only way she will eat it now

| ☺Farrah☺ Donating Member | Farrah likes soft toys and could care less if they squeak or not. She just wants to play tug-of-war. (Of course I let her win.) She also fetches wonderfully but usually it is a soft stuffed animal. Vanessa is a breeding dog and is going to have her 3rd and final litter any day now. But while I have her in between she has no clue what a toy is. She walks in circles too. I know both of those things are signs of a puppy mill, but um, NO not a puppy mill. Just a breeder who keeps an x-pen outside for the dogs so she doesn't have to worry about someone falling into the pool I suppose. : )

| Reading these I realized that a quiet dog might be nice sometimes ![]() We have 4 dogs total (only 2 are Yorkies) and they all seem to gravitate to the noise maker toys. They also HAVE to make it "sound off" while they play. ![]() When it gets to be too much I just leave the room for a little bit. Godd luck in your mysterious quest.

| Buster & Maggie don't care too much for toys. They will try to make the squeaker toys squeak but that's about it. No pulling on the rope. Buster used to do fetch but he won't do that anymore. I wish they would play more.

| So, I'm visiting family and brought Tommy along. I've been feeding him off of a paper plate. Odd, I noticed yesterday that he likes to play with the paperplate! He was spinning it, and pulling it around, rolling with it. He looked like he was having lots of fun. lol, just wanted to share. |

| I have a biewer just like that ... she only plays with the toys her big brother is playing with at the moment and once he moves onto the next toy she wants the next one. When she is by herself (which is rare but it has happened) she wants NOTHING to do with toys. Squeaky, crinkly, jingly, NOTHING! She doesn't really like toys. I had a little tiny yorkie (2lbs) who was the same exact way. They both we well socialized as babies didn't leave the litter until 12weeks or older. |

| Some Yorkie's don't like toys. I've had two like that. I have one now. He like to play with me and with our other Yorkie but shows no interest in toys. He's Angus. Trouble, our other guy, is a toy nut. If one of his many toys isn't handy he'll pull a washcloth out of the dirty clothes bin and play with it. Both of the Yorkie's I've had who didn't like toys were master paper shredders, though. Give them a paper towel and they could cover the entire house with the pieces. |
