I know when we go to Wal-Mart their prices are different from city to city even. If I go to a bigger town virses country - the city Wal-Mart is higher priced. We even noticed this with 40 min of them apart. Weird, but true. I have given away yorkie pups before to people I know very well and would make great parents. Depends though on situation. I gave one to a very close co-worker I knew for years and then gave one to my daughter. Giving them away did not make the pup less quality or less valued. Like I said it all depends on the specific situations. Then if someone saw what I did - they might make a generalization that show/ehibitors give their dogs away. And that is just not aways the case. | kjcmsw - Is this your girl you were talking about (show quality) on your avitar? Would love to see a picture of her. Show quality is a term we use to say after they have been in a show and have racked up a few points and looks like they can finish. I think you are talking about the term, "show potential or show prospect." Right? A show prospect is a termed used for a pup that seems to have all the right qualities at that time to be shown. All the people I know that sell their pups sell with limitied registrations to protect the pup and their line. All pups no matter the quality is sold on Limited Registrations unless it is sold to another show person. Period. That is just how it is done in my area. Most all sell theie pups they do not keep personally are therefore sold with Limited Registrations, since most of us do not sell a pup to show unless we know that person very, very well. Just how it is done here in my area. So the breeder/exhibitor may have a very nice pup, but if it is not kept for them personally to show, it is sold to a pet home with Limited Registrations. |

All the breeder/exhibitors I know place the pups they don't keep for themselves on limited registration. Prices do vary from region to region. Some great breeders in Texas, but prices are definately lower than California, for obvious reasons.

| Yep, I thought later that is what you meant, when planning a litter. I liked Charged and Ready - what a beauty! Trey's great-grandsire is also Charged and Ready. My one's girl's sire is a BIS/BISS winner. Very nice. Last edited by topknot; 04-06-2010 at 06:35 AM. |

| Since I don't know the call names, I have to ask...you're referring to Charged and Ready, right? Bonnie's breeder provided me with photos of him, his son (Major Attraction) and his sire (Charger of Mistangay). They're all drop-dead gorgeous.

No you said: "In my area "generally" speaking, a puppy sold with a limited registration is basically considered just another pound puppy and if it isn't good enough for the breeder to keep & breed is expected to be discounted considerably, similar to the price one would pay at a pound." and this is well under 100.00. I don't want to be argumentative, but I don't want the average member to get the idea that that price is common, I realize good breeders do give price breaks for good homes, but I think sometimes the haggling spirit to break breeders down to the rock bottom price goes overboard. I'm not a breeder, but I talk mainly with pet buyers who are often misled and think a good breeder is willing to give her dogs away, and my post was just to clear up this misunderstanding. I urge buyers to find the best breeder they can, and always visit the home, and pay what the breeder asks instead of haggling. I think some pet buyers think this haggling is expected. I agree with you different prices in different parts of the country. I'm not sure any average members are still reading, most who are reading are better informed than I, but when someone tells me that they offered a good breeder X amount, and they are going to see if they accept the offer, and then if they do, they offer a new lower X amount, it just seems to come from a spirit of expecting good breeders to be doing charity work.

| Bonnie has a really strong pedigree. That's why I bred her daughter back to that line. I'm considering breeding Bonnie to Roger's sire's line, but have also talked to my breeder about breeding her back to her own paternal line. It's a decision I have a while to mull over. She has a litter now 7 weeks old and I will be resting her for a season. She only has a season every 9 months so it will be a good while.
