Since you guys are talking about clothes now can I ask a newbie question? I like for my babies to wear clothes but Louis has shorter and coarser hair and he is cut in a puppy cut so he is easily brushed out! Paris on the other hand has cotton candy textured hair and it is long in the traditional yorkie cut. How do clothes ruin their hair? I notice that she gets pin knots faster when she had clothing on so I have to be careful to not leave it on too long...should I not put her in clothes at all ever? Just wondering! Thanks for answering my question if you can! Have a great day! :-)

You know I use to see it as a more comman practice to sell females more than males in the past but more common in the pet market than the show/exhibitor area. At least in my experience LOL..

Clothes is a personal preferance and what you are hearing is what breeder/exhibititors do as to not ruin a show coat.....

Yes, a cotton coated dog will mat easier....so, if you are willing to work at continue removing those mats, why change.

Me too, I always got more inquiries for girls. But, since being in California, it seems I get more request for boys.

Speaking of inquiries, I got one this morning via a Blackberry.....

Hello ..
I have been interested in buying a yorkie and came across a website where it showed you were a breeder . Do u have any puppies available ? How much do you typically sell them for ? Are they registered ?
Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry

Now how does one expect one to answer the above questions to a stranger, someone that doesn't sign their message....
Of course the only place I'm listed is YTCA, so that is the only place they could have obtained my info.

Yes - many pet breeders do the clothing to sell their pups. LOL You would think a buyer would want to see what the pup looked like. I do not know if all dressed up. Go figure!

Mary - I got a call yesterday from a guy with a really bad southern drawl and was looking for two pups he could breed together, but this was really for his daughter. He said he found one the other day but they were brother sister and he was asking me if he could breed them together, but guess maybe no, but wasn't sure. He said that this would be for his daughter for sure since he was a pit bull kinda guy and said he loved his pit bulls. OMG I was shocked and thought it was a joke. Crazy!

Yes, strange inquiries, I got a phone call a couple of nights ago.
"Hello, I got your name from someone else. Have you got puppies?"
"Not right now?"
"Well, that's ok, I don't want one until July 15 anyways because that is the day I go back to work after my holidays. And I want a female, will you have one for me on July 15?"
"No, I don't think I'll have one for you July 15 or ever. Bye."

Well, since I made the post taking offense at one of the OP's comments, I'll just clarify and then be done with it.

English is not a second language to me and I thought it was pretty clear what was being implied. The OP had mentioned about the difference in pricing males and females and was answered by mostly exhibitors/breeders. Then the OP comes back with the comment about getting insight about breeders saying money isn't an issue and then pricing their females for more. Now, in that context, just who else, other than those answering, would she have been talking about? And I wasn't 'protesting'. I was taking offense at what I saw as a case of someone twisting words to suit their own purpose.

On the general issue of pricing pups, I feel it's nobody's business what someone charges or why. I think there are other things about a breeder that are more indicative of their ethics and qualities as a breeder than price. I may not agree with what someone else is doing, but, hey, it's their business. If I were looking for a pup and didn't like the price and it was a sticking point for me, I'd just move on and look elsewhere. It is a fair question, though, to ask why puppy 'a' costs more than puppy 'b' in some respects. It may well be that one pup is a sterling example of the breed while another may not be so much so and these differences may not be apparent to the prospective buyer. There are other valid reasons for pricing and reasonable questions should be welcome, but I don't think anyone has the right to just nose around people's business and make judgment calls.

There are some things that I feel are just over the top and I'm sure everyone can think of a few examples. They probably all have been discussed here time and time again. That's why it's important for a prospective owner to educate themselves first on the breed and become familiar with what's out there. Then they can make an informed decision on which breeder they feel most comfortable with and hopefully get the puppy that's right for them.

One thing that I think is universal is that you should be looking for a breeder that is not just 'selling' pups but is instead 'placing' them. There is a perfect home for every pup, but not every home is perfect for every pup. You should be able to pick up on this early on in a conversation and if you sense that the person is 'selling' rather than 'placing', you should look elsewhere.

OK...I'm done .

She wants a puppy after her vacation? Wow, that tells so much. You should start a thread on "What not to tell the breeder". I bet you all have some really great stories.

Too funny - like a pup is just made by pouring water on it and it is ready.

I bet we could start a new post on all the crazy inquires we get. It would be a riot to read them all. Maybe Roy D Mercer could read them and we could tape them and sell it. LOL

Yep! I have them all lined up in a row.....each one labled with a certain look/criteria....I get a caller....and I water it....up grows a puppy.

And if you believe that....heck! I'd be watering me a Best Show Dog right now.

I just hate it that people seem to think that it is their right to get a pup from you like you have a pet department store or something. I've had people come over for their first interview with their money in their hot little hand and think they were going home with a pup that day. It drives me nuts, we should start a new thread, it would be hilarious.
