| Im at a loss!!! I've had issues with Izzy's barking at other dogs and sometimes I can control it. But today was the worst!!! A lady in the neighborhood walked by with a cute little Chihuahua mix puppy and when Izzy saw them he went bananas!!! I clapped my hands like I normally do, said quiet then moved him away from the door. Then the lady came up closer and wanted to talk to me. (She just got the puppy and saw I had a small dog so she wanted some advice) So I thought okay, Ill go and talk to her and have Izzy meet her dog too. When I went outside, Izzy started going crazy barking out of control!!! He was so loud it sounded like a scream, like I was hurting him. Im sure the entire neighborhood heard him! I tried calming him down again, tried to make him sit and calm down but nothing worked. I ended up having to take him back in the house and put him in his crate while I talked to the lady. With his loud screeching bark, he scared the poor little puppy. I felt so bad!!! I dont know what to do. It drives me nuts. I'm so frustrated!!! I love him dearly but when he is like this I cant stand him!! He gets so worked up over seeing another dog sometimes it scares them! I feel like I am not doing something right. I walk him everyday, as a matter of fact we just came in from walking when this happened. What do I do? Please help!!

| I know what you mean and I too need advice with this, it's ridiculous! I'm home alone a lot, just Lilly and I, and it startles and scares me usually (she does it a lot at night) and sometimes puts me in panic mode because I have no idea what she's barking at. I'm beginning to think I just need a trainer, I can't control her whatsoever anymore, it's out of control.

| I'd like some advice on this too!!! Meeko is the same way! He's extremely friendly and is barking because he's excited and wants to go over to play. When we go to a pet store he trys to run so fast, and the floors are soo slipperly, that he just runs in place from slipping. It can be very embarrassing. When we're out on walks he barks when he sees people or dogs. I've been starting to get him to sit and if I can get him to, he usually stops barking. If I see him about to move or his ears perk up like he's getting excited again I just make a loud uh noise and get his attention again. But, this is when we're outisde in the neighborhood and someone passes for a minute or 2. He's too hard to control in a store full of dogs and people. It's upsetting too, because I know how much he loves going out. Maybe I'll try going out this weekend for an hour and training him.

| Derbs has issues with this as well....on walks when he sees another dog or when I'm in the car and he sees one from the car....he starts barking and barking non-stop. I've tried the squirt bottle, didn't work. I've tried the coins in the can, didn't work. He just wants to meet them and then he is fine but if he can't get to the dog to greet the dog, he goes NUTS! It is frustrating.

| What you are all dealing with is dogs that are afraid I pretty sure. they are barking to keep the others away. They learned it works because the dog leaves. They learned it works cause mom gets out the squirt bottle or can and give them loads or attention. They win both ways. So what to do. Well your best bet is to go find Control unleashed by Leslie McDewitt It is your best bet fro games and tricks to help your dog settle down. It better to go read as you need the pictures and her take on it. I can tell you but it is not going to work as well. What you have to do is work with your dog below were he/she gets upset as once he/she is barking it to late for learning. So stop and ask the other dog to stop and feed just before the explosion and leave the other way. Work eye contact and work it so it look at the scary thing look at me. not hold eye contact to you as it not possible so allowing the look and look back will strengthen the look at you. Your going to need really extra special treats and an understanding of random reinforcement. JL |

| I saw this technique on TV, from It's me or the Dog. The dog was the exact samw way with other dogs. This is what she did . A dog passess your dog and she turned the dog the other directiong and walked away. each time her dog reacted like that, she quickly turned him around and walked him away from the other direction. The reward him/praise him for not going nuts. Distract him with little treats . the dog learns that other dogs mean good, and calms down. You have to do it consistently and patiently every time you see the unwanted behavior.

| Sorry I just realized she would bark like this while on walks while meeting other dogs. I would try what the poster aboved suggested. Victoria's technques are great and work well when appplied correctly. |

| I saw it this afternoon with the maltese and pom on Its me or the dog. They were barkers indeed. She used the turn around and walkaway technique. My dog likes to meet the other dog and only starts barking as i pull him to move on. |

| Im gonna try the technique again. I tried giving him a treat but he was so beside himself, it didnt work. I mean he was screaming bloody murder! You would have thought I was torturing him!! When we are on walks, he is not as bad. I've been working with him in that situation. But i think it was worse because they were walking up the sidewalk to our house...which in his eyes was invading his territory.

Also have a look at Truid Rugrass book on talking terms with dogs. it will help you see in body language just before he gets upset and you will have more time to train. JL | |

| 2 things Hello 2 things: First you said you put him in a crate to go and talk to the lady. Try not doing that since it seems to the dog that you are putting them in the crate for punishment. Second thing is you should try what "It's me or the dog" trainer advises on tv. When you walk with your dog and if there is another dog coming towards you, the sec your dog gets angry or aggressive you walk in the other direction. You have to be consistent and do this often. Every time he barks or gets over excited by another dog you walk in the other direction and once he calms down you can walk towards the dogs. You could ask a friend who has a dog to practice this with you. Hope that helps Aneta |
