![]() I completely understand. I have a dog already and do understand the costs of the vet and maintaining the grooming. When it comes to the time that I am home, I do work but I am part time, I take online classes for school and I do come home for lunch every day and the most time that my puppy would be home alone without me or my fiance here would be about 3 hours. A lot of these things I already know about the breed because my mother has one and I did just move out so I completely understand the time and care it takes to having a Yorkie. The issue of price is not about taking care of the puppy but purchasing him/her at first. That is where I am having the most trouble with but as I said I am willing to wait if I need to in order to save for the puppy.

| ![]() Just a few months ago my husband had to take Lil Bit to the emergency clinic, We had to put down a $967 deposit for them to look at her and keep her overnight. Luckily they called us a couple of hours later that she was fine, and we did get most of that deposit refunded - but it took a few days for the refund to show up on our debit card, although the deposit was taken out right away.

![]() I am sorry to hear about Lil Bit and I am glad she is okay. I am just a bit upset however on how I am being so discouraged in a way to get a Yorkie. I appreciate all of the help and information that everyone is giving me but at the same time I know that in my heart I can care and love a Yorkie and that is what I am looking to do.

If, after weighing all the pros and cons you know that you are able to afford the sometimes unexpected expense that can come up, then go ahead. You will find nothing but support on this forum. And, you can get vet insurance. Many members on here have it for their little ones, and will be able to make recommendations on an insurance company. I don't have the insurance as I have a separate savings account for emergencies.

![]() However...please take it from those who have taken the time to prepare you for the realities of Yorkie ownership...because, it does not end with the initial price tag of your Yorkie! If you do your homework and look for your breeder first (& carefully!) there will still be expenses as Beamer's Mom mentioned above that will arise at any given notice. Or, if you do not do your homework and follow your heart vs your head...(which many of us have done! ![]() And, just another lil' fyi, once you post on YT that you're looking for a puppy...be prepared to receive pm's from YT members who will solicit their litters and who often only visit this site for that purpose. ![]() This is not to say that these breeders are not reputable but, you must do your homework with these breeders as well. Do not fall into the false sense of security just because they are YT members that they are reputable. ![]() Lastly, just remember...our advise is because we want you to have a good Yorkie experience and be prepared for what is entailed as a Yorkie owner. I can't tell you how many Yorkies end up in Shelters or Rescue Groups just because their owners literally could not afford vetting costs. It's heartbreaking for the families and most importantly for their Yorkie. ![]() So, now that you've heard all that...if I were you, and I was still determined to get a Yorkie...I'd start saving for the initial cost of my Yorkie PLUS, a savings set aside for "emergency" vetting costs of a minimum amount of $1000 dollars. Then, I'd begin researching to find my Breeder. Once I found a reputable Breeder, and purchased my Yorkie...I'd immediately get pet insurance to help cover the vetting costs to ensure my Yorkie always has a furever home with me. I wish you well in your search for your Yorkie... ![]()

I mentioned before ytca.org as a great resource for reputable breeders and the stickies in this section give you tips of "red flags" to look for and stay away from when locating a breeder. Someone on here made the statement "buy your breeder first" and I think this is great advice. The last thing you want to do is buy from a puppymill or BYB. So I think it's smart that you are going to start saving. It's not that you have to pay a fortune for a puppy, but you want to buy from someone who does all the proper testing, vet stuff, etc.. with their breeding program.

![]() A cheep yorkie puppy can wind up costing thousands of dollars in vet bills not to mention the pain and worry. Pick out the very best breeder you can find and most times this will eliminate paying thousands of dollars on a sick yorkie. I know I have two examples of a good breeder and a back yard breeder. The puppy from a back yard breeder may be cheeper but in the end it is a huge gambel you may not want to take or be prepared for.

Beamer, from a reputable breeder, is a very healthy little dog, according to our vet.

![]() you should not get a yorkie baby before its 12 weeks old. All there shots would be done at that time and you would have a full health report on it. There are too many complication, like hypogycemia that you would have to be concerned about if gettin a pup before it is 12 weeks and especially 2lbs too. many byb and stores will try to sell you one at 6-8 weeks because it is soo tiny and cute. dont fall for it.

![]() Hi, I own Country Hills Yorkies and do have some very nice yorkies available for reasonable prices (they sell with a spay/neuter contract for pets). I live in Ohio and have had people drive from NJ to pick up pups so am not sure if that is too far for you or not. Let me know if you want more info.
