Pet adoption: Want a dog or cat? Adopt a pet on Petfinder. You can expect to pay between $300 - $500 for a young Yorkie, but that will include the expense of neuter or spay which is a savings of around $400 here in NJ. Plus it will include the shots, heart work and flea preventative. If you consider a Yorkie mix you will be able to find a pup easily and as I said the vetting will be included in the fee. If you're looking for a full Yorkie you can find that too, and if you're open to a young adult between one and three years of age you can almost readily find one in the area. I don't think anyone is trying to discourage you, just guide you. I have six Yorkie. Five of mine are rescues and one I bought. The upkeep is quite expensive but I cut the expense by grooming myself. I have a nice book and invested in clippers, sciccors etc. and find that I like to do the grooming myself anyway because then I know how my babies are being handled. The vetting is the biggest expense. As many have said you have to have the $$ put away for an emergency. Yorkies come up with some weird issues health wise sometimes. They are prone to a lot of hereditory issues that cost to take care of. Anyway, I do hope you'll check out petfinder.com and consider adopting before buying. It's really a win win deal. Elaine
