I am just a bit upset however on how I am being so discouraged in a way to get a Yorkie. I appreciate all of the help and information that everyone is giving me but at the same time I know that in my heart I can care and love a Yorkie and that is what I am looking to do. |
Believe me nobody is trying to rain on your parade...we can all relate to the wanting of a Yorkie!
However...please take it from those who have taken the time to prepare you for the realities of Yorkie ownership...because, it does not end with the initial price tag of your Yorkie!
If you do your homework and look for your breeder first (& carefully!) there will still be expenses as Beamer's Mom mentioned above that will arise at any given notice.
Or, if you do not do your homework and follow your heart vs your head...(which many of us have done!

) you again will undoubtedly face expenses that could have been avoided & quite possibly put a strain on your family budget.
And, just another lil' fyi, once you post on YT that you're looking for a puppy...be prepared to receive pm's from YT members who will solicit their litters and who often only visit this site for that purpose.
This is not to say that these breeders are not reputable but, you must do your homework with these breeders as well. Do not fall into the false sense of security just because they are YT members that they are reputable.
Lastly, just remember...our advise is because we want you to have a good Yorkie experience and be prepared for what is entailed as a Yorkie owner.
I can't tell you how many Yorkies end up in Shelters or Rescue Groups just because their owners literally could not afford vetting costs. It's heartbreaking for the families and most importantly for their Yorkie.
So, now that you've heard all that...if I were you, and I was still determined to get a Yorkie...I'd start saving for the initial cost of my Yorkie PLUS, a savings set aside for "emergency" vetting costs of a minimum amount of $1000 dollars.
Then, I'd begin researching to find my Breeder. Once I found a reputable Breeder, and purchased my Yorkie...I'd immediately get pet insurance to help cover the vetting costs to ensure my Yorkie always has a furever home with me.
I wish you well in your search for your Yorkie...
