| ![]() That was very interesting. Maybe the geneticist were on to something there for sure. Has the mother club even spent a day or a dollar trying to research this and our wonderful piebald partis?

No Longer a Member | ![]() The "No dogs but show dogs" viewpoint, is a bit forceful. 'Buy your pet only from a show breeder, and one with Champions as well as breed club membership', There is growing belief that only respectable show breeders have worthy dogs. Show breeders/ethical breeders so often snobbishly proclaim, "we breed only for ourselves!" which establishes them as the "ethical ideal" by the prevailing "good breeder"standard. Some of these viewpoints are born from good intentions, some from ignorance (show people can occasionally be ignorant too, ignorant of the value of respect, courtesy and kindness),others are simply from a need to feel superior and righteous. "Better" really is both subjective courtesy toward others, being responsive towards clients wishes and priorities, offering gentle education, and caring and respect for human and animal beings. For the moment, we are still free to keep and raise dogs, and even do things not approved of by the breed standard. People should be able to make choices, with or without approval, even with or without good judgement. That is freedom. Factual information, (without emotional hype) representing various viewpoints, and opinions presented as just that, opinions, should all be readily available to help buyers be informed. Then they can make an educated (if they choose!) choice, their own choice. |

| ![]() The fox video was interesting. I'm not sure what to infer from it in regards to this discussion, but interesting anyway. Hormones are fascinating little chemicals that do affect a body in many ways. We do know that the extreme piebald effect is associated with deafness. Also there is some linkage between sex hormones and growth rates, which is why I'm against very early spay and neuter. And then you have certain cancers that are considered hormone driven. It's all very interesting, and not just for dogs. I don't think you can lay this at the feet of the YTCA. Research in this area should be done (and I hope that it is), but is much too big a project for a breed club, registry, etc. to sponsor. It really goes beyond just canines.

| ![]() Oh, I was commenting in general. I think it was someone else that asked how much the YTCA had spent on this. It is interesting in many ways. I would like to see the other videos as that one was not the whole story. They didn't seem to be posted on You Tube.

| ![]() I have no intentions of getting into an argument about the partis vs regular colored yorkies, but..........Does it not seem strange that Nikko did not have one parti colored yorkie until she got Ashley and either one or two bitches back from a BYB/Miller in OK that also bred Maltese. And are you aware that doing DNA on a dog only proves that the sire and dam are the parents of the get that is dna'd? It does not prove the dog is not of mixed breeding. The tests that they have out now like MARS,Wisdom Panel, are not 100% proof of anything. They even state they are not for proving a dog is a purebred. There was a report several months ago that the same dogs were tested by different companies touting the recognition of what breed a dog was and they came up with different results. I certainly would not be hanging my hat on these DNA tests. They can prove if a particular dog or bitch are the parents of a particular puppy and that is all. |
