| car safety Can anyone recommend a product for car travel? My baby wants to ride in my lap, which is illegal . Should I get the harness that straps to the safety belt, or get a barrier to keep her in the back of the SUV, or those booster seats I've seen so she can look out the window? Opinions about any of those? Friendly policeman gave me a warning today about not having Mia in my lap. It makes sense...what if the airbag went off...that would be dangerous for us both. |

Donating YT Addict | Please NEVER EVER LET YOUR PUP RIDE IN FRONT SEAT. My groomer did. She had an accident, airbags deployed hit pup. Broke jaw, and now to get dog into car she has to sedate. We have a few methods with Waffles depending on what we are doing. All being in the REAR SEAT and attached to seatbelt We crate her and seatbelt crate when traveling with camper. We have a booster seat with harness and secured to seat belt. We also use a carabeaner and harness to seat belt. Hope that helps. All purchased at PETCO

| My vet tells such sad stories about people who have no secured their dogs in their car. In an accident she says the pets becomes a missile and the damages are often severe or result I death. I have Lways hooked Cali into her car seat with a harness since she was a pup so she just sta ds still when we get in the car waiting for me to put the harness on and strap her in. Also, I can turn the passenger seat airbag off when she is in the front seat.

| Mine ride in the Snoozer Car Seat each attached in with a safety strap that attaches to their individual harness. When they do ride in the front seat in their snoozer car seat, I do disable the front airbags. I like the booster seat option because they are buckled in and secure, but they can also still see out...which they seem to enjoy very much... They immediately took to their Snoozer seat with literally no issue at all, and I think part of the reason they like it so much is because they still can see out. Mine are too small to see out if they weren't in a booster type seat. I love my Snoozer Seat, and I love having the peace of mind knowing that they are safe and secure every time they go along with me. My seat came with only one safety strap, but I was able to order another one for $8.00( including delivery) directly from the Snoozer company. I would highly recommend their product, and I have absolutely no regrets about my purchase. |

YT 1000 Club Member | Most of that specialty equipment cost a lot, and I just did it simple. Regardless if it's a Jog or Car Ride, my guys get Harness' put on them. What I did is just buy a couple inexpensive short Leash's, take the (human) loop end and stuff it down between the bottom and back of the seat, and tied it off where they couldn't be thrown into the Dash. That gives them room to stand and look/sniff out the window, come over to my elbow and lay down if they want. When they're not riding, the leash's just lay flat and are out of the way. Total cost <$10. Weather permitting, when I have left them in the Vehicle, I always disconnect them, where they can run around and utilize the ACRE of room I'm insuring for their pleasure. (I have a Suburban with the back cleared for them )

| Car safety The Snoozer seat is an A plus!! As already stated it is safe, and my dog loves it. It is so comfy he usually curls up and sleeps and does not want to get out! When I first got it I had it in the house until he got used to it, then put it in the car. He goes crazy when he knows he is going in the CAR! I know it is expensive, but we sure have much use out of it and it is very sturdy. I tried a less expensive one, but it did not work. If you Google it there are some cheaper vendors. I got a size larger than suggested so he can lie down, but it does take up a lot of seat pace. |

| Iron mike Are u happy with this seat? I tried it but it did not work for me. It was very small and seemed to move around a bit. My dog would not sleep in it. But it is an alternative and a better price. Also it takes up less space. |

| Iron mike Thank you. Glad your dog is happy in it. He is probably smaller and can lie down etc. My dog is over nine pounds and was probably too big for the seat I got. Sounds like you got a good deal too! 20 PC off is always good. :-)) Last edited by dottiesyrky; 09-29-2012 at 05:59 PM. |

You can have it sitting right on the car seat, or you can loop the carry handles around the headrest, if your baby likes to look out the window. I have a Lavendar Tote-O-Pet, (they don't make that color anymore, but they do have other colors), and I have a black back-pack-o-pet, the back pack straps come off, and it has a shoulder strap, as well. They're great carriers. Celltei Tote-o-Pet Pet Carrier Sheila P.S. Crates explode in as little as a 30 mile per hour impact.

| Car seat This looks great if you need a multipurpose carrier/car seat. Also it is very expensive, almost $200 !! Does not appear to be as stable or comfortable a car seat as the others mentioned, if it is to be used a lot. But again it depends what is right for your individual pet needs. Also not all dogs are comfortable in carriers, but they are very safe. I must admit though that a multiuse item has many advantages as I have cupboards filled with separate carriers/beds, etc. LOL! Hope all our suggestions help the original member's quest for the ideal system. |

She actually would get in it, herself, when we were preparing to go on a trip. LOL And my tiny Kia just loves her lavender tote-o-pet. It has a soft, cushioned tray in the bottom, and we give her a baby blanket and she cuddles up and goes to sleep. Sometimes, she will sit up and watch out the window. They don't "look" comfortable, from the picture, but they are really very comfortable. Celltei has designed them with supports inside, so they don't collapse on the pet. They have lots of screened windows for ventilation, and also roll down flaps for privacy, and warmth, if it is cold. Yes, you're right, they are expensive, but, they do serve a multi-use, and the quality is unsurpassed. It really is very stable. It secures very well to the seat in in our Jeep Grand Cherokee. We pull a 26' travel trailer, and the carrier doesn't even jiggle. Celltei sells fluffy pads, and other accessories, such as the seatbelt strap, etc. I have a fluffy black and white pad for the back-pak-o-pet. I agree, it's good to offer options. Everyone has different needs. I like that I can use it as a car seat, and then, a carrier if I am shopping, etc. I love the zippered top opening, because Kia likes to sit up, and her weight is balanced more so than the type of carrier where the dog has their head out the front.

| Seat You sound so happy with the carrier and there is nothing like personal experience, which you sure have. The picture does not do the carrier justice as it is much more comfortable than it looks, as you have found. Hope our fur babes appreciate all the efforts we make to have them comfortable and safe. LOL! |

You're absolutely right, the pictures of the carriers don't do them justice. It's a shame. They are so soft and comfortable. I agree, I often wonder if our babies understand, the effort we put into to keep them safe and comfortable. Although, while the carriers were expensive, esp for me, because my DH is retired, I feel they have been priceless, in the respect of keeping them safe when we travel. Years ago, we used to put Sydney in a Deluxe Doskocil Vari Kennel, run the seatbelt through the handle, and we "thought" we were keeping her safe in the car. Then, I saw a video of how crates explode in a mere fender bender. All I could think was how fortunate we had been never to have had an accident with her in the car.
