So sad to hear about the loss of dear Sydney. You must miss her terribly, and I feel for you. Kidney failure is a horrible disease.

IMO just strap the pup to the belt for now. The least expensive. Most the time I doubt Moki can even see out the car. Until you find something you really want at a good price. Just put a blanket there so he's comfy

Thank you. I miss her more each day. She's been gone 19 months, on Sept. 28th, and it hasn't gotten any easier.

Kidney disease does not fight fair! My sweet girl showed no symptoms. We caught it in routine blood work, prior to her dental.

Her BUN & Creatinine were just slightly above the normal range, and I was able to bring them back down almost into the normal range.

She was doing very well, and then, suddenly, her levels sky-rocketed, and she was gone in just 4 days.

We began testing our little Kia, a week after Sydney died, and her levels were just in the high end of normal, so we immediately put her on a homemade renal failure diet.

She is doing well....but I remember all too clearly how well Sydney had done, and so it is always in my mind, that I could lose her.

She will be 14 years old in December.

She misses Sydney so much. We are getting another puppy the beginning of November, and we feel the puppy will help ease her lonliness.

Buddy the golden wears a Solvit harness. The yorkies wear Solvit harnesses and sometime boosterseats. Dogs are always in the backseat- Afraid on an airbags deploying and hurting them.

We love the snoozer carseat. I strap them to the seatbelt. They can see out the window also which I think helps with carsickness--at least it did with Maggie May.

Opinions about any of those? Friendly policeman gave me a warning today about not having Mia in my lap. It makes sense...what if the airbag went off...that would be dangerous for us both.

I've also been wondering this. When we travel in the car, someone else usually drives so I ride in the back with Phantom next to me, or if it's a very short journey then I'll hold him in my arms in the front passenger seat.

So sorry to hear of your loss of Sydney. I do hope your little Kia will be just fine for a long time to come..I lost my precious little girl Bo aged 11yrs in May this year to renal failure and heart failure. It was also sudden one eating and happy the next not eating and generally down. She had a heart murmur for years. We got a new little girl a few months later and it has helped so much.Ax

I had a wonderful lady buy 2 babies from me...she adored those girls....she insisted on carrying them unrestrained in her lap in the car...I did everything I could do, to talk her out of that, but she told me she only goes on very short trips around the area, and they just love to stand in her arms, looking out the window. It broke her heart to "cage them up" where they couldnt be in her arms, enjoying the ride. Less than 5 miles from her home, she was involved in a wreck....the doors buckled and popped open enough for the girls to bound from her car, and her precious babies were killed in traffic, right in front of her eyes! Almost 2 years later, she came back and bought another baby from me, but had to return her after several months...this lady has YET to get over that horrible experience of seeing her girls killed in front of her eyes....I really do worry about her emotional stability....I dont think she will ever get over that....she told me she STILL sees that playing over and over in her head, and every time she closes her eyes, that is all she sees. I am working on getting her to seek professional help to get over this....PLEASE, it is not worth the lasting devastation this can create for you! SECURE YOUR BABIES IN YOUR CARS!!!

I also use a Snoozer car seat, but mine is the kind that straps on the center console of my SUV. It has a strap that attaches to his harness and he is up high where he can see out the windows.

Thank you so much for your kind words. I am so very sorry that you lost your precious liite Bo. Renal Failure doesn't fight fair! It doesn't give any warning, and by the time it is diagnosed, our babies have lost 75% of their renal function.

I pray every day, we caught our little Kia early enough to give her time.

I'm glad you got a new little girl, and she has helped to ease some of your grief.

I saw this harness setup while wandering the web

Ruff Rider | Dog Seatbelts | Car Safety Harnesses and Pet Safety

Also Chokefree Harness website has a set that goes into the seat belt connector.

Wow that is horrible. They say most accidents happen only a few miles from your house. I had a cat that loved to ride in the car. I too would harness him. He didn't love it but it was the safest thing for him

Due to my husband being an insurance claims adjuster for storms we travel TONS.... Airplane rides he has a Coach dog carrier that he is ok with but in cars we had a booster seat until I was meeting up with my dad one day and as soon as he saw him in the parking lot Guinness jumped snapping the harness out the window of the truck and ran to my dad (I meanwhile about died of a heart attack and went into a panic attack), we had a harness with a loop that went thru the seatbelt and clipped to the harness.. he broke that one too... so finally since the backseat of my truck is HUGE across, I have a Kodiak, and sometimes we would rent SUV's or Mini vans to go visit daddy I decided to get a shower rod that adjust and make it like a runner so he can play in the backseat but can not get off the seat.
Yea I know not everything has a 12lb sasquatch yorkie like me but that is what works for us

Default Car seat

WOW! What can I say?? Glad you found a solution. Hopefully most Yorkies do not have his strength. They say Guinness is good for you, but this is above and beyond. LOL! Perhaps he should enter for the truck pulling contest? :-))
Very scary experience though.
