| herniated disc in neck Hi I have a 7 month old male (Sedrick) who fell down about 6 stairs last week end. He did not show any signs of pain or discomfort for 3 days and yesterday my husband picked him up and he went into shock and had a seizure of some sort. After rushing him to the 24 hour vet, they have informed me that they feel he has a herniated disc in his neck. Can anyone give me some insight if this has happened to them before? He has sensation in all four limbs and can now move his head slightly. thanks, Sedrick's worried Mom Last edited by bakerylady; 05-07-2005 at 05:22 AM. |

| I'm so sorry to hear of your little Sedrick falling! Poor little guy! Kisses and hugs from Maddie and I! I have not heard of dogs with herniated discs in their neck, but I have one so I know how painful they can be. My mom recently had a herniated disk in her lower back which she is slowly recovering from. I don't know if it's the same with dogs as with humans, but with humans, 70% of the time, they heal on their own without any drastic measures...other than PT and pain killers. Your puppy is still quite young, so I'm thinking...and hoping, that he will heal up and have no lasting effects. I would think it would be a good idea to not let him jump onto and off of furniture, but regular movement is good as it keeps the muscles in tone, which will give more support to the herniated area. This is only my thoughts and I'm no expert...hope you get some more insight from others here! Best wishes to you and your little Sedrick...I'll say a prayer for his recovery! |

| My advice would be to find an expert, not a regular vet! Is there a vet school near you?

| Sedrick is not doing to well. We are going on a road trip in an hour. We have to take him to Saskatoon Saskatchawan. They have a vet hospital. They will be giving him a mri to see what seems to be the problem. He has feeling in his hinds as well as in the front but he can't support himself as of yet. We had him with 2 different vets over the last 2 days the first was a quack. The second was a hospital/emergency care they took really good care of him but they recommend we send him to Saskatchawan they don't have enough technology to handle him as well equipt as they are. So they will have him put under so he can handle the drive its 8hrs from here(he gets really car sick when he is feeling well) My wife will post when we return. We will return hopefully Monday or Tuesday at the latest. Thank you for all your concerns he means a great deal to us he's our little boy. Mr Bakerman |

| Do you have any veterinarians that are accupuncturists? We had a daschund with a herniated disc is the back and couldn't walk. She still had feeling in all limbs, but couldn't stand. After 3 accupuncture sessions and 2 weeks, she was slowing walking around. In about 2 more weeks you never knew she was hurt. That's been 4 years ago and she's never had another problem, other than old age. She's now 12 and slower, but you'd never know she had a back problem. You might want to check into it, before you spend $$$$ on any surgery. Cyndie Trevor's Mom |

| sedricks saga well, we are home from Saskatoon without Sedrick who has to spend a few more days recovering from MAJOR surgery. Apparently he has what is more commonly known as "wobblers syndrome" and was an acute case who should not have survived the initial injury. The Vets in Saskatoon are very efficient and wasted no time in deciphering our little boys problems. He spent 6 hours in surgery and had 8 pins put into the 1st and 2nd vertibrae to hold them together and will be in a upper body and neck cast for 8 weeks minimum. As I speak I am waiting for the Vet to phone to give us her nightly update on him. I will post with the update later. Thank you for all you care and concern. Sedrick is our first puppy after 16 years of cats and he means the absolute world to us. |

| Hello everyone Well we just talked to the hospital and they had good news his motor skills are still improving. They told us though that he has ulcers in his eyes that was caused by being put to sleep but they are treating them and they said he will be fine. Everything else is very positive. They said they will call us tomorrow and give us another update. Hopefully the images I put in this will turn up. What a sorry sight. Thank you all for your prayers and support.
