I live in the northeast where the possibility of a tick borne illness is very high. It is for this reason that I want a very effective product that is the safest for my dogs specifically. I wouldn't consider Nexguard because it does not seem to repel ticks and they will usually attach before they are killed. I would rather not have ticks on the dogs at all but everyone has told me nothing is 100% effective. So I'll go with 90% and repelling ticks safely at a very affordable price. I just can't risk encephalitis from a tick borne infection in a dog already compromised as an epileptic or dogs that are elderly. If that means using a collar, then so be it. I'm also not a huge fan of new stuff -- people had high hopes for trifexxis and there were lots of issues supposedly. If it works for you, great, but I think people don't consider less expensive more effective options so that's why I posted on this thread.

| I looked into the collars but I thought they were uneffective unless worn ALL the time and I don't want to have a tick collar on him 24/7. Maybe it's different now. But for one I find them ugly (they'll clash with his stylish collars, COMEONGUYS ) and I'm not fully comfortable with them either. Now if it was the kind of thing that I could just put on him if I knew we were going to be in a heavily wooded area for a hike, for example, I would do it. But I read it doesn't work that way. The Seresto collars are made by Advantix, btw. And Nexgard is made by Frontline. The price does suck on Nexgard... pretty bad. I was going to see if my vet would sell me ONE pill but they probably don't do that, I don't know, just to try it and see if it even works for us. We are going to FL next week where it's obviously warmer and I'd like to avoid fleas/ticks. So I was debating swinging by the vets on Monday and seeing what it costs or if I should just order Advantix from Chewy.com. Frontline doesn't do jack squat for us most of the time.

but whatever... haha! I've def thought about using the collars. My main gripe with using the topicals is the nasty greasyness it makes on his hair and it usually stays that way for a few days, or until I can bathe him or wash the area after the 48 hours. Plus in the summer, it's nearly impossible to keep him out of the pool for that long to wait for the stuff to kick in. So nexgard appeals to me for that reason as well.oh yes I saw someone else mentioned the Seresto collar, sorry!

| I got Colby nexgaurd. Its in the mail. My question is Colby is 5lbs and the nexgaurd is 5-10lbs. Should I give him an entire dose or maybe 1/2? Or something else? |

| I would give her the entire dose, but split it in half and give her half one day, watch her for side effects, and if she's okay, give her the second half the next day. |

| That is probably something you need to talk to your vet about.

| I started Chase and Calvin on NexGard last month. I bought them each one dose from the vet while we were there for their heartworm tests, then ordered them each a 6 pack after making sure they didn't have any reactions to the meds. I wish it wasn't so expensive, but I'm glad there's finally something for ticks that is a chew! |

| YT 2000 Club Member | I would not take a chance with any med that people say made their dog sick. I have used revolution and had no problems. No greasy mess on the fur. Please research before you give a med and make your dog sick, |

| We decided because I just don't like the idea of pesticides on the neck area. Colby and my aunts cocker spaniel play all the time and I don't want it getting on her or in her mouth. Figured we'd try nexgaurd and if it works and he tolerates it I'll keep him on it. |
