| Giorgio is on a home cooked diet and that's pretty much how it's going to stay. I don't put much trust in these federal agencies. I have fed him so called premium food only to have it recalled later. The same agencies that supposedly check pet food, check human food too. How much USDA Choice beef has been recalled again? I rather sleep with the devil I know (human grade food) versus the one I don't. Of all people not to trust the FDA is at the top. Anytime a anti depressant has a side effect of thoughts of suicide. Or an acid reducer causing stomach aches and vomitting, I'm having a hard time believing they are much use. This guy is plugging for his book. There are so many good resources on cooking for your dog that this guy is obsolete. |

| Do what works for you and your pet "One man's meat is another man's poison." Change that to dog if you wish. I know several dog breeders that swear one brand is the worst food you can feed your dogs and other breeders that will only feed their dogs that same brand. One dog may have an adverse reaction to a dog food and a dozen other dogs never experience any problems. Reading, educating yourself, research and personal experience will tell you what is best for your dog. YT can be helpful with some of that. Personally, I prepare my homemade food for my two 'special needs' dogs. At first, I purchased prepared food specific to their needs. I prefer making it now and it is not that difficult or time consuming. I have also found it cheaper even when I buy all organic ingredients. I am all for anyone profiting from the sale of a book or other product so I do not want to stand in judgment of the book mentioned. What is wonderful about living in the USA is that we can decide if we will or will not buy it. If you decide to buy it just remain open minded and remember that everything the author states may be true from his perspective and his experience but may not apply to your needs and wants for your dogs. Very good feedback and discussion for you in this thread. |

| Feeling relieved that what I feed my Camrey is on the list. Thanks for telling us the criteria for the Google search!

| Just an FYI: Fish meal is ground up dried fish (the whole fish, including guts and trimmings and bones, ie: byproducts). Sometimes it is just the trimmings.... All ocean-caught fish is treated with Ethoxyquin (can't find the link, but it is a US law) China is the 2nd leading producer of fish meal... I just checked the ingredient list on two Solid Gold foods... both contain Ocean Fish meal. I have 4 dogs... none would even venture to taste Solid Gold foods... I find this shocking as they are piggies. Just questioning this guy's list...

| Will someone pm me? I tried to download the list and it keeps staying unable to open. Our vet strongly suggested we switch to science diet sensitive skin and we are going back to the vet she is broke out even more. It doesn't bother her but it isn't right. I've never been a fan of science diet but they said it would help her.

Fish in native US waters may be okay, as freshwater river fish, as they are processed on land. So it depends on the type of fish used in the pet food. I still have doubts though. Seems fish meal has the potential to ignite, and has caused a few ships to sink.

| Haha... yes... either way... I've never seen the supplier of fish meal listed on any packages of dog food. That stuff just makes me nervous. Then again, feeding it once in a while may be okay, but I 'd be leery of keeping mine on a predominantly fish meal diet for any length of time.
