| Micro chip question We are seriously considering having a micro chip placed in Sophie. Can anyone tell me if your yorkie has suffered any ill effects from this procedure? Also, our vet is participating at a local Pet Expo this weekend by offering micro chipping for $20.00. I understand there is a registration fee also and was wondering if it's an annual fee and if there is anything else I should be aware of before we chip her. Thanks.

| All of our animals are microchipped. Maddie still needs to get done though because we are waiting to get her spay... waiting more because momma is anxious than anything at this point. We have never experienced any problems but I do not think I would do it wihout having them under for a surgery of some sort. I have no experience. Just the fact that I wouldn't want someone microchipping me without being asleep so I wouldn't do it to my furbabies. I hope you find the right answer for yourself & Sophie! Peggy, Monkey & Maddie

| Mico Chip We had Sprocket chipped on a regular vet visit, it looked like a fat needle that the chip was on the end, they rubbed a little stuff on the site (between the shoulder blades) so it wouldn't hurt, and bam, it was done. Sprocket fussed at it a little, but it was never red or swollen, I don't think it was even sore, just an irritation, like something new, the first day or two. The chip comes with a registration to your vets office or where ever you bought it, then you go on line and make it "yours", your dog name, address, you know specifics. Mine cost $14. to reg online and its and international chip, not that I would be taking Sprocket overseas but, it's what they are putting out now, so when we travel it's good anywhere. One more piece of security. But it really was no big deal to get it done, other than my anxiety over it. Hope this helps you.

| Thanks! The cost isn't a problem but I'm wondering how often I will need to renew to keep her information current. I don't want her to be in pain or have any issues with the chip becoming dislodged. I just have this bad feeling about putting something foreign and unnatural under her skin. That's what I have been debating myself about .

The vet used Home Again. The first year fee was included with the bill. I just renewed the registration and it was $16.95. You can do it online. You can always go online to the website and update any information. Home Again also has you upload a photo (optional) but if Sophie was ever to go missing they can take care of sending notifications out. this is their website: Pet Microchip for Dogs and Cats | HomeAgain Pet ID & Recovery Service Lil Bit was microchipped years ago and at that time the vet used Avid. There was a onetime fee. I think it is $19.95 now and then it only costs to update information. But I registered Lil Bit's microchip with Home Again as well as it is a better service, so I pay the registration fee for her. Well worth it for peace of mind.

| When I was a vet tech, I used to HATE, HATE, HATE microchipping a pet while they were awake! The needle is HUGE, and to be honest, it is much better for your pet if they are already under anethisa.....I dont have my dogs microchipped though! Good Luck

| I thank you all for helping me with this decision. I appreciate your help via the links you provided and read them carefully. We will have to re-think this. I understand the side effects are very rare however I couldn't live with myself if Sophie suffered because of a micro chip even with good odds. She is licensed but my fear of losing her comes from the fact that we are leaving on an island vacation for two weeks in a couple of months and Sophie will be staying with her groomer/trainer. She will keep Sophie in her house with her Chi. We've always taken Sophie with us but this time she can't go . Thanks for all your input. I'm just being a nervous mommy but have to think about this.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | We microchip all of the puppies that we sell. The chip is implanted under the skin not in the flesh and therefore there is little reaction from the puppy to the injection as the pain is very minor. It would be like a mosquito biting your arm. The needle does look huge but it is designed to make an opening large enough to allow the chip to be inserted and once the needle is withdrawn the skin closes back to normal. It is very rare to see any blood during the procedure. We have been using microchips since they came out more than 20 years ago and never had a single issue with them. The new microchips use a 10 digit ISO numbering system where the older chips did not. A new scanner had to be purchased to read the new chips by the breeders and vets. Breeders and vets in Canada cannot insert a microchip without a scanner present as the chip needs to be verified before implanting. Not certain about the USA but it's probably the same rule. Our chips do not require an annual fee to maintain but the dog owner is responsible to advise the microchip company on a new address and other details such as a new telephone number. |

| All of my dogs are microchipped and I wouldn't have it any other way. Believe me...it is the only way your dogs will be returned to you in some cases...long story but I've been there...I was lucky! |
