| I don't know if it's changed or not, but wasn't it previously the case that the Home Again scanners would scan for any chip, while Avid would only read their own? Might be worth researching which company is the best and see if your vet uses that. With the fees, I know our yearly membership was built into the cost of the microchip. They told us that we didn't have to re-new every year, unless we wanted to...you just get more "extras". We have Home Again, and I know I've gone on to the site and updated and changed my info. a few times...changed vets, changed any special conditions, etc. (if my dog is ever lost, I definitively want who ever finds him to know he's got health problems that need to be addressed, so I'll always update that information, as needed). |

| Well, Sophie got her chip today. It's an AVID chip, was $20.00 and the registration fee is $19.95. The vet and material I received says the chip can be scanned by any scanner. I like the idea of alternate phone numbers, too. Sophie only let out a quiet little peep and is running around like crazy playing now but they said she might get a little soreness in the spot. Now we feel we have done what we can to make sure she is able to be idenified. Big sigh of relief.

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | While it's best, IMO, to have the microchip done while the pet is under anesthesia for something else, it's far better to have it done while awake than not have it at all. Tags get lost, dogs get stolen. Depending on the company that the microchip is licensed with, there may or may not be an annual fee. Mine are with Avid- there is a one time $20.00 fee and no annual fee (though you are charged if you need to make changes in the registration (move, etc.)

| Fizz was microchipped a few weeks ago when she was spayed. I found the article on cancer worrisome - but figure that the risk of a dog going missing are MUCH higher than the cancer risk indicated. And yes, I too am a worrier. Whatever your decision, have a wonderful vacation and I'm sure your baby will be fine
