| ![]() That just means that at the cellular level, the virus could be recognized (sorry, I'm not extremely science-y) and the pup is still protected. The higher the titer, the more antibodies the pup has. But low antibodies doesn't mean no cellular immunity. So titers are only showing half the picture basically.

i talk to vet each time i go in on this bc my concern is pools due to all the foreclosures and people not draining or taking care of pools. My next door neighbor went into foreclosure and the realtor was a friend and i called and said i am calling to report or you turn the electricity on and i will let my pool guy use our water to keep it up and clean it as i do not want to worry about mosquitos and hate to say it but my client is a scientist and told me to poor crisco oil in the pool if they do not drain it as it will kill mosquito larvae and trust me i do not care i would have done it lollll Luckily my bud took care of it as i was freaking. Now do not tell dh as that is my one excuse not to move to ohio loll Last edited by dwerten; 05-12-2010 at 09:17 PM.

YT 2000 Club Member | ![]() I havent read through the entire thread and will when I have the time because I find this a very interesting topic and cant wait to read all the info!! Anyways, I do all puppy shots, then thier one year boosters, then not again untill every 3 years when their rabies is due.(needed here by law) I dont believe that all vets do it for the money.. majority yes.. but there are some out there now that are getting with the program and not recommending it. I absoutley love my vet and she has never given me any issues as far as vax's, food etc. I do wish more vets were like her.. ![]()

Yorkie Yakker | ![]() Imagine if we annually vaccinate ourselves what types of diseases we would have to contend with. I'm more holistic so I approach my dogs' health cautiously. I vaccinate minimally and not until after 12 weeks after the maternal antibodies disappear. Vaccinating repeatedly prior to that is worrisome to me. I changed my entire perspective after my beloved dog of 7 years came down with cancer. After two attempts to remove the tumors his vet found my dog's surgical site would not heal. I had the vet euthanize him and vowed I would not get another dog until I got to the bottom of his health problems. I thought it had to be either the water or the commercial dog food because I don't remember having to battle this when I was younger and had dogs. However, I do remember having to vaccinate my dog (of 7 years) every time we changed military stations. He had to get the rabies vaccination three times before I settled in Seattle. Fast forward five years when family friends gave my kids a gladiator dobie/rott mix. Prior to Xena's arrival I had done quite a bit of research from raw meaty bones to vaccinations. I have to say today she looks wonderful as do Sophie (maltipoo) and Emily (yorkster). Sophie, incidentally, dislocated her left knee when she was less than a year, while romping roughly through the backyard. The vet insisted she needed an expensive surgery. I had him pop her knee back in and have to say she's mobile like it never happened. Her future remains to be seen I do realize that but for now she recovered beautifully. Also, Xena's brother, who was fed commercial dog food, broke his knee and had to be euthanized. I am a firm believer in feeding my canines raw meaty bones because their bones grow at a slower rate and they don't make trips to the vet which is a huge savings; and I vaccinate sparingly opting for titer blood tests instead. ![]() |

| ![]() Wonder if the breeder gave the shots. I would love to know what the full story is. Had to be a bad batch of something if two from the same litter had a problem. Hopefully someone will come out and say something. Horrible story if they both had reactions. ![]() We cannot just not vaccinate. Things like this scare people...I really hope they will disclose what happened.

![]() why do breeders give shots? I do not know much about breeding stuff - is it to cut the costs for their litters? Last edited by dwerten; 05-13-2010 at 01:44 PM.

If they closed the records, they are probably hiding something. The thing that concerns me is that people see something like that and think they should not vaccinate their puppies. I agree...it is tragic. They are darlings. Thank God they are in good hands.

| ![]() Oh, I agree, young pups do need to be properly vacinated by a qualified Vet. In this case, who knows who did what, when and with what...now sadly there are 2 sick pups |
