OMG no have not heard that. Wouldn't it be better to risk having to pull teeth.BTW I use the Petz for life oral spray snd it works wonderful. I was just using it once a week on bath days, they would get teeth brushed and a spray of this stuff. I had one that got real bad tarter, so started using it daily on her, at bedtime. and it has worked wonders, half of the tarter is now gone. You could start as thread on the in breeding, although if done by a reputable breeder who has studied the genetics of the line, and have had their dogs tested for genetic disorders, it can be done safely. It definitely should be left to the experts. a novice should never do this.

I now use chlorhexedine wipes from drs foster and smith nowthere is no genetic marker for liver shunt though and 38% of yorkies have liver issues so no way to make sure it is not in the line

| So well said - I totally agree. We also have a Sheltie and have had this discussion many times with our Sheltie breeder and they now titer their dogs before any vaccinations are done. AKC should step up to the plate on this. Quote:

| YT 2000 Club Member | After my dogs get thier year old booster (Tuck just had his done today) they only get vaxed every 3 years when they need their rabies, ONLY because its the law here. My Sheltie had a nasty "skin burn" from the rabies shot he had 2 years ago that took forever to go away and IM very reluctant for him to get it again, but Im not sure how to get out of it, because he needs it to be reliscensed. When they are vaxed they get everything though including the lepto and thank heavens we havent had any issues.. (i didnt no how dangerous it was untill yt, but because of where I live I feel its nessacary). The articles posted are scary. It certianly opened my eyes!!

| Out of curiosity, since it is generally believed that maternal antibodies are gone after 16 to 20 weeks, what happens if a puppy has not had their vaccinations by 16 to 20 weeks? Does a puppy still need three to four rounds of Vaccines to be safe???? I’ve read the links and they say one is sufficient once the mother’s antibodies no long interfere. since we do know exactly when the mothers anitbodies are going to dissapear what are your views on just vaccinating once after 16 weeks? Also, what if you get a dog at an older age and you do not know if the dog has had any vaccinations how many rounds of vaccines do they need? I know the links say one is good, but what are your views on this? |

| This thread is totally freaking me out because Scooter has an appointment tomorrow to receive his yearly vaccines. I've decided to only give him the rabies vaccine and that's because our county mandates it. I've never had a problem with fleas although we live in Florida so I don't have to give him any flea preventative. I do, however, have to give him a monthly heartworm medication because heartworms are a very serious threat to all dogs here in the South. My last 2 dogs, Shih Tzus, both had numerous cysts in the shoulder area where they received years of vaccinations. I've always thought there was a connection but the vet said no. I don't believe her.

http://www.aahanet.org/PublicDocumen...s06Revised.pdf I am very concerned people won't do their homework in regards to vaccinations and also sit down and talk to their vet for the choices they are thinking of making. This is a very serious decision and you easily could lose your dog if you just do what is written on YT and the advise people are giving. Do your homework and do your research...you owe to your dog(s).
