i called specialty hospital tonight as was freaking a bit on this parvo stuff and they told me due to the fact my dogs all had the shot as puppies they should be protected as vaccine has not changed and this disease they see mostly in dogs 6 mos and younger so he told me due to my dogs being 6 and almost 6 they should be ok and dd having a poor immune system and on steroids would be the only concern

there are vets here that do them yearly even though it is recommended every 3 years our first vet does and my new vet does 3 years but she does individual and she actually told me my dogs do not need them any more but i still do titers for my piece of mind. She is not a big fan of them after one year booster. I was happy to know she does individual vaccines not combo too. She is very conservative and does holistic and modern medicine.

The vet that jacked up my dd on nsaid and steroid mix he does corona as he sent me a card for it and that further did him in with me yet my friend trusts him, loves him and swears by him as he has all the latest and greatest but i question his knowledge after mixing steroids and nsaids now Corona ???

I am honestly not a big fan of a lot vaccinations myself...never have been. I had a pup who got very sick from a DHPP....she died within six months and while I have no proof it was from the shot, I will always deep down believe it.

Recently I have had three pups that I could not touch for 24 hours after their DHPP ... the vet has not changed where they get these from and they believe that nothing has been changed by the manufacturer. I don't believe it and told them that in the near future something is going to be said about it. What are the odds that three pups in the same household had reactions? Nothing deadly, but that is not the point....it was clearly related to the shots. I believe it will be just like other stuff in the past....it will take large numbers of reactions being reported and someone will wake up and there will be a recall. I have never in all my years had this type of reaction, so I am convinced something is wrong.

the problem i think is people never report this stuff - i always report it when a drug reaction occurs but almost like they act like they do not care when you do it like you are one in a million as no one else calls so until dogs are dying from it no one will care and vets keep saying oh it is not the vaccine like they told my parents when their dog got a viral infection after bordatella vaccine and he was vomitting blood and bloody diarrhea and ran wild with pancreatitis when it was not that no way this dog ate the same food for 7 years, gets one treat , and no people food so no way and has never been sick and sturdy as ever he is a silky. He got so sick within one week of that vaccine and it was the only thing different from previous year and this vet vaccines yearly - i called as they are down the street from me and they did dexter's neuter and asked WHY ARE YOU DOING YEARLY VACCINES IT IS EVERY 3 YEARS? They said IT IS UP TO THE OWNER TO ASK -WHATTTTTTT i was so mad like owners know to ask I said that is wrong owners are trusting you to inform them - so my parents have been taking him in yearly for shots and they usually do intranasal bordatella but this year did the shot instead of intranasal. He also had all the boosters and rabies in one day with that as well he was so sick but he had gotten all the other shots the year before but bordatella and bordatella is viral so sounded to me like bordatella did it. They refused to believe the vaccines had anything to do with it but my dad who is clueless to this stuff and trusted his vet after $1,000 still also believes vaccine. He said bear was fine until i took him in for those vaccines and then he was really sick

I agree it is going to take time. It seems odd to me aslso that 3 suddenly had a reaction.

I would like to see the AKC and the breed clubs start to lobby for some change. But it is probalby just going to take the general pet owner to make their own decision on it.

If there was this much proof in human vaccines they would have changed a long time ago.

In my opinion the AKC is going about it backwards. They spend a lot of money on research trying to find cures for hereditary diseases instead of lobbying for laws against pets being sold by brokers and pet stores. so we can stop the breeding of dogs with these diseases.

That, in turn, would decrease the number of unwanted dogs.

I kind of got side tracked there, my point being the biggest animal organization in the country would have influence on the laws governing the health of our dogs.

So instesd of using dogs for testing new vaccines, in order to fix the problem, lets just get rid of the problem.

yeah but the sad thing in all is MOST pet owners TRUST VETS LIKE THEY ARE GOD so sadly unless they join groups like this and learn more this will never change

i would like to see inbreeding changed too as my dog with all the probs is AKC and INBRED so i think she was inbred with a poor immune system then vaccinated and at 7 mos old all HECK BROKE LOOSE she was a total mess

what i find interesting is allergies in dogs happen between age of 6 mos and 3 years - isn't it interesting it all starts after vaccinations?

also epilepsy in dogs starts occuring around the ages of 3 years why is that is it after 3 years of vaccinating yearly?

That is really sad. it just does not make sense, humans don't need anual boosters, so why should dogs.

Dr Dodd's vaccination schedule goes home with all of my puppies. I do explain it to them and tell them to make up their own minds. I don't want them coming back on me if something should happen, but at least I make them aware of the new information, so they can discuss it with their vet.

I know. that is why I send the information home with my puppies.

The AKC could be funding studies to compare two groups of dogs, even dogs from the same litters to see if there is any correlation between the shots and the Allergies and epilepsy.

yeah so far my ckc puppy mill dog is healthier than my akc byb dog now that is sad ;( and why i believe so many dogs are in rescue as people cannot afford vet bills and did not realize the cost of a sick pup before getting them so as soon as the vet throws a thousand dollar vet bill in front of them they go WHOA and a thousand dollars is nothing here in california

Yes, either in shelters or in rescues. The UK does not allow the sale of puppies from anyone other than the breeder. It would be sooooo simple to control.

Also our laws are set up to actually force breeders to keep dogs in outbuildings. In our county, if you have more than 6 dogs, they cannot be kept inside your home. The same law applies to 5 pound dogs as to 150 pound dogs. I can have 8, five pound dogs and it would not make one large dog. Now to me that does not make sense. Aren't my dogs better off inside my house with me, than isolated in some other building

so sad did not know that but did know they are treated as property in law suit cases so you can only go to small claims court if you want to sue for anything sad

Yes I have. That is why when ever I hear that show breeders "better the breed" as opposed to us non show breeders who "just put random dogs together", my hair stands on end.

I realize that not all show breeders do this, but many are only after the trophy, they are not interested in "bettering the breed".

When the standard is not in the best interest of the breed, the breeders need to taske as stasnd on behslf of the dog.

We just watched the Eucanuba dog show a few weeks ago. ASnd they showed the wining GSD from 1997, I think it was. And that dog was upright on it's back legs, not crouched like they are now.

Then the announcers sasy that the crouch is as trademark of the GSD, designed so they can spring into action quickly. What a bunch of poppy cock. Rin Tin Tin never looked like that

yeah it is really sad and this breed has so many health issues it makes me mad. I grew up with a sheltie when very young with epilepsy so i saw that disease then had shih tzu for years and my parents bred two litters of healthy pups so all this health stuff with mine I just do not understand it nor do my parents they are like wth is up with the yorkies as they have a silky who is very healthy - it makes me sad not to mention crazy lolll so i have become crazy paranoid because of all the health issues and cost of vet care i have been through and why i always try to help others as it is very frustrating having sick dogs. Also have not been on vacation for 2 years as afraid to leave them with anyone so it is very sad as I want to go to meet ups and have fun with them but now so dang paranoid

i was thinking of starting a thread about inbreeding why do they inbreed these dogs and i think it is called line breeding?? to get the best of their line or something - not sure of all the breeding stuff just know i have a jacked up inbred akc dog from a byb ;( she is limited akc so maybe breeder knew something was up and she was an accident -hmmmm and breeder is of course is AWOL

oh and just wanted to say NEVER GIVE THE DENTAL VACCINE that is new and bad side effects - a dentist we saw gave it to a big dog and dog went lame in that leg and she still thought i should give to demi so i ran real fast went to another dentist and he refuses to give that vaccine so we used him -whew

I have heard they give vaccines in limbs because they can amputate if a problem like cancer have you heard this ?
