This letter is from England and will not carry any weight here in the states. It is just the way it is...even in our own food chains...we are the highest if not the hightest for shooting up the animals (cows, pigs etc)we eat in the world. And we wonder why there is so much cancer in us. Other countries have documented proof that we don't need to do what we are doing in this country but yet it continues because people really won't do their homework/research and demand changes with their lawmakers). I have never seen or even heard about a vet not treating an animal that doesn't have vaccines...I have heard them say without proof they have to get the same shots over again instead of doing titer tests (because it costs more $$$ or because it brings more $$$ into the vets pockets. Fact of the matter is that many, many people do not take care of their animals unless they get very ill. I will also say it took me over a year to come to my conclusions in regards to vaccinations (researching, reading, talking to 3 different vets) so I would caution everyone to not just jump into this without doing all of these things before you come to your decisions. This is very serious and each person has to come to their own conclusion. In regards to Rabies, not all states require them and some are every year and some are every 3 years. You can choose to follow the law or you can choose to break the law but you need to understand what you are doing and what the fines could be and if your dog(s) bite someone without the shots. You are taking a huge chance but if you go down this path then I would strongly suggest you have the titer tests down every single year so you have something to go into court with or at the very least you have proof the dog is still guarded. When it comes to vaccinations I have made my decisions but I would warn everyone to be careful who you tell not to get the Rabies shot...as you are telling them to break the law in many states. If a dog bites someone and it goes to court fingers could easily be pointed back to YT. I am afraid to many young people or breeders will look at this as a way to save $$$ rather than by doing right by their dogs. Titer tests are more expensive than some of the shots and if people are going down this path then I believe titers need to be done...

What is amazing to me is how few people really knows what the law is in their city/county/state...they just listened to the vet who either doesn't know or wants to make $$$$ and shots were given when they were not necessary. I have seen this happen before.

| I am not sure that is true in every state....I am almost positive in Michigan it was the same..state law...but it really doesn't matter, just so people check with their local animal control people.

I did not tell anyone not to get their rabies shots. I am saying that until the laws are changed people have to make the choice to either over vaccinate or to break the law. As for the 1 year or 3 year vaccines, the vet can give the 3 year vaccine, but if the law requires anual vaccinations you would still be in violation of the law even if your dog has received the 3 year vaccine and is protected. The change has to start with the laws and who better to push for this change than the AKC. They put all this money into research, what good is the research if nothing changes. The information is out there, it is not a matter of saving money, it is a matter of what is best for the dog.

Organizations have already started with this issue and have already gotten change in a number of states (please read The Rabies Challenge). AKC is a dog registration...period and what they do is in their self-interest (as is with any company). I am not sure what research you are talking about in regards to AKC. I am fully aware the information is out there....many of us know this and have been posting this for a number of years on YT.

What good is it to have the information if the laws prevent us from using it for the good of the dog? We can all sit here and make up our own minds, but if the laws are not in accordance, then we have to make a choice. Either disobey the law, or put our pets at risk.
