So well said - I totally agree. We also have a Sheltie and have had this discussion many times with our Sheltie breeder and they now titer their dogs before any vaccinations are done. AKC should step up to the plate on this.

In my opinion the AKC is going about it backwards. They spend a lot of money on research trying to find cures for hereditary diseases instead of lobbying for laws against pets being sold by brokers and pet stores. so we can stop the breeding of dogs with these diseases.
That, in turn, would decrease the number of unwanted dogs.
I kind of got side tracked there, my point being the biggest animal organization in the country would have influence on the laws governing the health of our dogs.
So instesd of using dogs for testing new vaccines, in order to fix the problem, lets just get rid of the problem. |
